I'm myself very shy when initiating RP because of all the horror stories I've heard and witnessed by not giving other people a chance, like ignoring their character or fake an afk.
When I do put up my confidence, I emote to let them know I'm acknowledging them. Sometimes they ask me to come over, or those.. replies, "Oh it's getting crowded in here, let's go somewhere else."Â
Try to walk up to them, give them a proper hello, or directions to so and so, or some interesting introductions. Â Perhaps to join in their conversation that your character may have interests to.Â
They are not worth conversing if they ignore any friendly attempts. Â If people wish to have a private RP, don't do it in public areas, moreso in /say. Â
Though, I'd love to meet your character. Â Hoping in this will break my shy bubble as well. Â I've met some interesting RPers along the way, like Tobias.

Anyways, onto the ordeal.
I've got two characters, whom I adore to role play.Yet, I'm too shy to even commence a hello. Now, I understand it's the whole 'New to the community' thing. But, I find it so challenging to even type or /wave to anyone without a slight fear. I know many of us have been in the same boat, once upon a time. But, it's making me so stupidly insecure about my characters. Anybody ever get that way in a new environment?

I keep only running into Tobias when I'm half asleep and unable to think straight. Â And then I'm like, "But I wanted to RP with that dude" but I'm so tired that all that's gonna come out anyway is gibberish, so I go to bed instead.
Moral of the Story: Tobias is deliberately plotting to only run into me at crazy hours, obviously to thwart my plans.

Hahaha, I never imagined it possible but I think my main character might end up coming into contact with his in the near future. Does he still flirt with everyone? Does he still do that?

Gah, you're coming onto my tricks! I will have to re-think my strategy to keep our near-misses for RP going! Think of it like a build-up

Yea I gotta just echo the idea that you have to legit think 'what's the worst that can happen'. I mean, the absolute worst case I can imagine is for some reason the person I type words at types a mean thing back to me because I said hi in a land of magic elves and dragons and shit, and in that case I'm pretty sure that dude is the one who should go 'huh I have some shit to work out'.
What usually happens is either you get ignored (either intentionally or by accident), they say "hey this is kinda a private scene actually sorry", or you get to join in and maybe make some friends. I don't really see any major risks.
