RE: FC tag, does it matter what it's called? - ansemaru - 12-29-2013 Ah, good old Earthen Fury RP. Or was it Elezen RP? Oh, I know. Electrum RP. There's a <<Lv??>> around right now that makes me smile whenever I see it. xD But there's also something to be said about a FC tag that makes sense or represents the actual name of the company. <<Lv??>> is my FC actually. XD I am glad my tag made you smile though LOL RE: FC tag, does it matter what it's called? - Tla - 12-30-2013 I personally like tags the reconnect to the name of the guild, for easier mind association. And I like them kept the same in time so a guild can easily be recognized by the tag. Yes, it has no value in RP, but neither does the nametag over the head. I could name my character Dat Ass and introduce IC with a perfectly lore valid name, and no actual character would know. But still, I think the impression on other actual persons is important, and I'd say the tag is a sort of...business card? So yeah for me it matters, but not so much to do a fuss about it, everybody is free to do what they want. ![]() RE: FC tag, does it matter what it's called? - Rickter - 12-30-2013 Im starting to assume that most of the people saying "it doesnt matter" play the game with name plates turned "off" and thats probably why it doesnt matter, because you would never see it either way. i play with the nameplates on and in that case it would damage my immersion a bit RE: FC tag, does it matter what it's called? - Kismet - 12-30-2013 I can't speak for others, but I play with everything turned on. My immersion just isn't broken that easily. I find myself looking at either the chatbox, the face of the character I'm talking to, or my own character a majority of the time anyway. If we're walking or fighting, I just know it's the inevitable that I'm going to see non-RPers during that, so I don't let it bother me. If I can ignore griefers, I can ignore a silly little FC tag. But that's just me. ![]() RE: FC tag, does it matter what it's called? - C'kayah Polaali - 12-30-2013 (12-29-2013, 05:45 PM)Nebbs Wrote:With Hand of Fate, it was more that the Fates farmed us...Â(12-29-2013, 05:00 PM)C Wrote: It normally doesn't matter to me what the tag is - I like when RP FCs use "RP" in their tag, but I'm starting to recognize all the major RP FCs by name, anyways. ![]() By the way, how are you able to play with nameplates off? If I tried that, the only things I'd say ICly were "Cae? No, wait. Brandon? Who the hell are you?" For OOC I have to click everybody unless I know them well and it's annoying yeah..most time people cross me and I don't know ![]() RE: FC tag, does it matter what it's called? - ArmachiA - 12-31-2013 I play with nameplates on, if I was worried about my immersion they would be off. RE: FC tag, does it matter what it's called? - Fates Skein - 12-31-2013 I admit I prefer for FC's tags to reflect what they are.  The Cartel's tag is BLC.  I supposed I could change it to BLC-RP as we are an RP-focused FC. I find it difficult to take a group seriously if they have a silly tag.  It seems somehow...unprofessional?  That's not the right word but it's not really about immersion or anything, more about how you choose to present yourself as the member of an FC.  If my FC tag is ROFLMAO but my FC's statement and purpose are heavy-RP based storylines dealing with realistic consequences to in character actions, it creates a cognitive disconnect for people. I suppose if your FC -is- silly, light, playful or whatever, then it's not that big a deal. I do play with nameplates off unless I click.  But when I click on someone that's walking and see the tag <YOLO> (for instance), I'm going to wonder if they're an RPer that's in a social FC, or if they're a griefer, or if they're walking because they can't figure out how to toggle it off, but I'm not going to be able to immediately identify them as someone that RPs if that makes sense. RE: FC tag, does it matter what it's called? - Darkfae - 01-02-2014 When we initially started the game, the group we came here with shared initials with another group. Our leader was kinda annoyed by that, but also stumped as to what to change it to; within a couple of weeks, we decided to add -RP to the tag since we were an RP FC. Frequently when I was standing around on Claire, I'd have people send me OOC tells actually thanking me for having the -RP right in the tag. A couple people actually said something about how they were glad it was more than just <<RP>>, because they'd run into two different FCs who were using it, and it was confusing - having the FC initials plus the -RP was less confusing but still made it easy to know it was an RP guild. A point that was made a lot in these conversations was that these players were new to the game. Every single one of them had no idea the RPC even existed. They didn't use the official forums, so they didn't hear about this place that way, and none of them had tried Googling for an RP community site, or they'd found the one over on Enjin that's dead and gave up. So when we ended up needing to make a new FC after the group we were with left the game and we departed the group, we decided to just stick with the -RP at the end of our tag. If we ever move to another game, we're probably going to stick with that, just because of how positive the response has been to it previously and how helpful it is to new RPers. Overall, in some ways, it doesn't really matter what your FC tag is, as it is your FC and your $15 USD a month. However, the tag is the hook for your FC, so you have to consider that. While an amusing tag will draw attention, if it's incongruent to your FC, it may not keep their attention; if you can make the tag amusing and have it fit with your FC name, then it works. Otherwise, it may be a good idea to use something that matches or compliments your FC's name, and it may be beneficial to add the -RP tag to help out new RPers or non-RPCers to know you're a RP FC. |
