RE: Lore-esque Questions.. Sorta - E'irawen - 03-05-2014 Thank you so much!  I think I'm ready to get things a bit more put together now RE: Lore-esque Questions.. Sorta - Ildur - 03-05-2014 The process to be forgiven by the Elementals requires a wooden mask and a ritual to absorb the "woodsin" into it. The initial 1.0 Gridania storyline was made around that, specifically. Though I seem to remember not everything can be forgiven like that: sometimes the Elementals are just so pissed off they might even claim your soul if you die in the Shroud and make you into a Wildling (which is basically a thrall). There was a thread somewhre around here discussing the Greenwrath and the Elementals that discussed those things, if you need more information. RE: Lore-esque Questions.. Sorta - Sounsyy - 03-05-2014 I think the conversion from conjury to thaumaturgy would actually be pretty easy actually. So the main difference between the two is that CNJ draws the aether from nature and manipulates that energy into the desired spell. THM is the art of using ones own aether to form that spell. They are both elemental based magicks. (elemental, not Elemental). I can totally believe a character that for whatever reason starts using their own aether instead of drawing it from another source. Your character may not even realize hes doing it. Can use the CNJ storyline as a lore reference. Selphie is using conjury sure, but the way in which shes using it is more akin to  thaumaturgy. RE: Lore-esque Questions.. Sorta - E'irawen - 03-05-2014 Thank you. I played (some) of 1.0, but I have never been sure just how much of it's lore/story has carried over. I do remember the rituals with Dunstan and perhaps I can draw off of that. ![]() And! I do remember Sylphie in the CNJ story, but I hadn't realized that's exactly was THM does. I think I kind of like that twist. RE: Lore-esque Questions.. I do remember the rituals with Dunstan and perhaps I can draw off of that. Unless ARR specifically says otherwise, I take all 1.0 lore as continuing to be canon. For instance, Greenwrath used to be a huuuuuuuuuuge part of 1.0 Grid storyline, but ARR specifically states that the Elementals have been weakened by the destruction of the forest, so Greenwrath and Woodsin aren't as prevalent in the current storyline. The only example of lore retconning I've personally seen has taken place in Ul'dah. They completely wiped out the lore behind the 1.0 classes Pugilist and Thaumaturge, which I was hugely disappointed in. However, they didn't give a lot of new lore to fill in the gap, so because I greatly preferred the 1.0 class lore to the ARR class lore, I still consider the 1.0 definitions of the classes canon. I just say the Guilds have gone through a bit of restructuring because of the calamity or something. RE: Lore-esque Questions.. Sorta - E'irawen - 03-06-2014 I can't thank everyone in this thread enough. Literally all the information and help in this helped fill in a looot of holes and things in my ideas, and I'm so excited to get things going! |
