I think the server locks are due to how many people are logged in at any one time. Which is awkward, as I think a lot of people stay logged in with the afk tab while they sleep. @_@'

I've never seen Balmung locked for so long. The recent release of 2.4 is likely the cause, as it's the first weekend post-patch. Still, for a server to be locked all around the clock is pretty crazy. It wasn't this severe at launch, there were still slots you could sneak in!

Fingers crossed it opens up for a brief spell for you to nab a character. I'm trying to get a new character made as well, have been for the past two days! Frustrated

^Pretty much this, sadly. When the 2.4 patch hit, it pretty much made the entire server congested. Lots of people who would normally only login for a little bit are all going after the new content, and the people who would normally login to the server are likely  keeping their characters AFK logged in because we've been getting "the world is full" error messages. When those lovely things start coming up, it usually means there are so many people logged in to the server that it needs to queue additional players in because it's getting overloaded.

Currently, I believe, Balmung is open.

As of right now, Balmung's still open. ...But I would expect it to close within about an hour, if it's returned to its usual trends.

Tried two hours ago and for me it said Balmung was closed but Gilgamesh was open. *shrugs*

Yeah it's been kinda wonky. I'll have to develop some more fortitude quickly and stay awake until it opens again, waking quickly is a lost skill for me.

You'd be surprised how many people are not online those days. 
But then I transferred my main and that took an hour....  Think it was around 11:00p.m - 12a.m pacific time.

Hang in there. I transferred to Balmung myself not long after launch. It was well worth the wait. I ended up purchasing a transfer however if you can manage to crest one early morning as the previous replies recommend that might be the ideal way to go dependent upon your current progress.

Well I mean honestly I have some friends joining and I doubt they'll join over so I'll probably just level a main to RP with on Balmung, I'm gonna set an alarm for like 1:30ish my time and see if I can get in, and if I can't I'll try again when I wake up at 5:20 until it works, because I'm stubborn and come with a prepackaged "Never GG, Never surrender!" attitude.
