I usually end up with playlists, though so far I only have them for two so far for music for them, and working on a 3rd's
Kal's playlist is like a mix of music to pump you up for dancing or fighting (mostly fighting), kind of angsty shit, sea shanties or irish (rock/metal) music, sex related stuff, and badass lady songs (shit from like The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm, The Dirty Youth, In this Moment, Djerv, Pink, etc)

Dheina's is mostly music-box type of music and shit like Owl city. Her playlist is shorter though because it's surprisingly hard to find music for her :I But it's mostly cutesy and calming stuff, and stuff that's kind of woodsy/pagany/farm... though admittedly a lot of it is also stuff from zelda games for places like Faron woods, forest temple, kokiri village, and kakariko village type of music

Sam's is kinda similar to Kal's, minus a lot of the sex and trouble-maker "yeah let's fuck things up!" type of music. Right now a lot of sea-shanty, irish music, shit from Zelda windwaker, and similar stuff that would fit a Lominsan
Honestly only really got into rp stuff for them somewhat recently so trying to figure out the character a bit and playlist is pretty much a work in progress :I

I don't remember if I posted in here :O If I did, it was a while ago! Anyways, I feel like music, to me, really does define a roleplay mood. I can't quite get into the groove if I don't have some ambience. Here's some links for stuff I use when RPing as Lily (I'd use spoiler tags, but for some reason I kinda forgot how to, lel).
Alone/Meditative Music
(Really nice meditation music.)
Sad Ambient Music (I use this a lot particularly because I've used Yukari as Lily's faceclaim in the past, good for sad ambiences.)
"Good Ending" Music (Definitely good to use when you end a RP arc on a good note!)
Sad/"Bad Ending" Music (Good for "bad endings".)
This is it for now because I could seriously go on for far too long--I think I might literally have a song for every RP occasion. x.x

Okay ... I'll bite.
I generally don't select big arching ''theme songs'' for my characters. Instead I find inspiration in traditional tunes and lyrics that I feel would be familiar to them.
For Klynzahr this means lots of sea shanties and maritime tunes, like this one by Great Big C.

I am reminded of this next one every time that Klyn runs into a fresh young adventurer. It may not refer to a sea going vessel, but it sums up her experiences very nicely. I could easily imagine her singing this after a couple of drinks.
