I also got in on the 16th, but I think it was because I did phase 3.
Yeah, I didn't do Phase 3, so I'm not sure what exactly my getting in on the 16th was from.

Best Buy and Gamestop both take 5 dollar deposits to preorder. It doesn't require you to actually pay the rest of the game.. But, they still give you the codes.

Not sure if there are any codes left, though.

Yeah, but how would I use that with the copy/account I had from FFXIV 1.0? Wouldn't that code be for a new copy of the game?

Now that I think about it, my best friend preordered a copy in store at Gamestop today, and got early access.

No, the code they give you is the same code you put into the preorder.finalfantasyxiv.com website (That could be the wrong link, but you get the idea). Before entering it, you log into your 1.0 XIV account,a nd they email/give you another code. That second code is the code for early access, which you register onto your account via a link on the page they give it to you on.. Or, you can register it upon trying to log into the game.

Alright, so if I'm understanding this correctly I should, theoretically, be able to go by Gamestop tomorrow, pre-order for 5 bucks, get the code, activate/register it to my 1.0 account, then head back to Gamestop and cancel my pre-order and still be able to get in on the early access, yeah?

RE: Early Release on Saturday! - AkhutaiAngura - 08-23-2013

Yep. Though, the only reason to go back and cancel it is if you care about that 5 bucks. I wouldn't, cause the time to go back and cancel isn't worth it to me. But.

Make sure, before you leave, you have the preorder code on your reciept and you'll be fine.

Yeah, I totally understand what you mean there. I wouldn't be worried about the five bucks, I'd gladly pay it for a three day headstart, but I also don't want the store ordering a copy of the game and just having it take up shelf space. That and if I ever go back in there I'm afraid they'd try and make me pay for it. So, if I do this (not sure I will) I'll go pick up the receipt, walk over to the Walmart in the same plaza and go jump through all the hoops on my smart phone, then trot back over and cancel it claiming a last minute change of mind.

I missed a preorder once at Gamestop and never picked up the game. The next time I went in there I was told I had $5 on my account and that I could set it to any upcoming game. Granted this was about 18 months ago. But I don't think they will penalize you for not going through with the purchase. Worst case scenario, you lose $5. (shrug)

No worries you should be fine.  Smile

Yeah.. They're not gonna try and make you buy the game.

Whether you preorder and buy it, or preorder and don't buy it, they're going to sell it. They don't care who to.. All your five dollars is doing, is making them care enough to hold it for you for a few days. Once you don't come to get it, it goes up for first come, first serve, and your five bucks gets put into limbo for use on another game.

I have a spare pre-order key as a result of changing my payment method with Amazon! If anyone would like it, please PM me! As compensation, I will require one in-game hug—assuming you're on Balmung, anyway!

Edit: It's gone! Captain Waffles is on Gilgamesh though, so the hugging opportunity is still open, I guess!

Ooooh, gimme gimme gimme. Big Grin

But on a more serious note, that's pretty damn kind of you. Thumbsup

Ahhh I knew I should have checked the forums one more time before bed. Ah well. If anyone else has a spare preorder key, I'll PayPal you $5 for it and/or edit one of your school papers for you (I'm a writing teacher).

Did you get the back tattoo as well?

RE: Early Release on Saturday! - Azthran - 08-23-2013

This was mentioned in another thread but I'll repeat it here. It's regarding gamestop saying they are out of pre-order codes. Some people have gone home and called gamestop's customer support to ask about after the clerk at the store said they had no codes left. After some talking and information given these people claim to have been able to get a code.

I know there has been some controversy regarding ARR pre-order codes and gamestop. My friend works at one of the local stores and he had to put in his manager code to get access to more than the pitifully small amount of codes that they seemed to have. Also the other store here in town claims to have only gotten 5 codes total.

These are more recent stories but I've seen and heard of similar things happening way back when we could first start getting these codes from the store.

I called my GameStop this morning, and they said that they still have pre-order codes for people who have their rewards account. I don't, and the guy on the phone said he might still be able to get me one, and that I should come it. I'm headed over in a bit.

Does anyone know if Amazon is still giving out pre-order codes? I might order and return (or sell to a friend) a physical copy from them if GameStop can't help me out.

I think it was anyone who had signed up for the beta before a specific date got into phase 4 on the 16 and anyone else after that date couldn't sign up anymore and had to wait till the 17 to sign up for the open beta.

RE: Early Release on Saturday! - Salty Lake - 08-23-2013

So I actually decided just to get my significant other a copy of the game and use his pre-order early access code because he doesn't care about early access. (He is not much of a gamer and I have to sweet talk him to get him to play a game with me.) When I was putting in my early access information, I noticed that it said I already have CE and am getting some goodies. I think I bought the CE version of 1.0 to get the leather journal. Does this mean I don't have to upgrade to the CE of 1.0?

EDIT: I think I found the answer to my own question:

Quote:Players Who Own the FFXIV version 1.0 Collector’s Edition
Players who own the FFXIV version 1.0 Collector’s Edition will receive the FFXIV: ARR Collector’s Edition in-game bonus items (Helm of Light, Baby Behemoth Minion, Behemoth Barding, and Coeurl Mount) for free. The in-game bonus items will be delivered via Moogle Letter when FFXIV: ARR launches.

I can't believe I forgot I had the collector's edition! I hardly spent any money at all on a new copy of the game...
