I had a problem in Guild Wars 2 with people who claimed to kill the dragon, but NPCs (and myself included) did not agree that the dragon was dead. I think planning things to go along with the patches is a pretty good middle ground.

At this point and time, I wouldn't mind people saying that Titan has been awakened and needs to be put down (Don't think this is a spoiler since even SE has been parading this fight everywhere), but saying whatever happens to the Garleans at the end of the storyline (I havent reached that part yet) I think is pushing it too far. Say the Garleans are losing the fight and are pushed back, but in patch 2.1 they launch a second offensive, then I am okay with someone saying we were winning, but now they grew some balls and are fighting back.

I just think its a great idea to keep the main storyline out of RP as much as possible, or else we end up with 10,000 people who say they beat up Neal.

I think you can include the events of the main storyline in your RP without actually placing your character in the position of "hero of the day."

I want to comment on the rest, but you have not finished the main storyline and I can't bring myself to!  Heart

I've discussed the matter in-game with a couple of players and gone through the replies in this thread. I figure the best way to go forward will be to consider the main story as 'still in progress' until the first content patch hits.

I've managed to get Caesius to level 15, so once I complete a few more quests he'll be granted airship access and be able to travel outside of Thanalan with much greater ease. Once I get him a suitable set of full armour that covers him from head to toe in order to better disguise him I'll begin engaging in role-play!

Like, stuff that happens around level 30 and stuff that happens around level 45ish, they seem to be weeks, perhaps more, apart.  All the stuff in-between involves a lot of travel and groundwork that probably takes quite some time.  I think that's a bit different from, say, WoW, where the Siege of Orgrimmar is going on right now (even though my guild cleared it the first week), and though there are events that take place at the very, very tail end of the raid, they won't actually be placed into the game world until the start of next patch.

Anything pre-plot-cap has already happened. I'll disclose now that I haven't yet reached the end of the storyline (just turned 50 last night and worked my way up to Castrum Meridianum), and what I do know I don't want to give away to anyone who may be reading this and not wishing spoilers, so I'm still talking in some vagueries, but everything prior to the endgame in ARR can be said to have already happened. It doesn't matter how spaced apart things are 1-50.

At least, that's how I treat it, and how the communities I've been involved with in the past would treat it.

Hahahaha, nice point.

Anyways, I have no intention of RP'ing anyone on the Garlean side but one of my characters may prove useful to you for the sake of getting information, locating people or even acquiring them(assuming said person can play along).
He has no real allegiances or loyalties so it pretty much boils down to coin for him. Maybe something could come out of this for both of us! ^^  I sure hope so at least.

Good luck with your idea, i hope it works out great for you and all involved.

I'm interested in taking you up on that offer! There's a quest in the Black Shroud where a member of the Wood Wailers turns out to be working for the Garlean Empire - and being paid to do so - which makes me want to arrange a similar bit of employment for those interested. The difficult part will be figuring out how they'd meet.

That works (and was basically what I was talking about in the first place).  Oh, if you need help with CM or Prae, let me know.

*squeals with delight*  (Alex, I may have found you something at last ;w; )

The conventional methods might not be suited to Garleans I guess so perhaps a different styled meeting might have to be arranged in order to be more realistic and to justify it correctly. I'm sure we could think of something ^^

In any case, I assumed that you wouldn't be actually RP'ing any of this any time soon, but just in case you planned to, you should know that I have limited access to the net right now(since I despise this laptop) and no access to the game until I have my laptop's charger port repaired.

There's no rush for me to get this started, so I'm more than willing to wait for you! It'll give me more time to level and get some decent looking armour to better hide my character's face.

Technically, Darien's got some Garlean influence in his background, but he doesn't recognize it at this point, and I'm kind of holding those cards from him until "the right time" whatever that is. But someday probably maybe I don't know YAY ROLEPLAY HAVE FUN.

Ouch! Sad

You might see me around, though. I did a bit of role-play not too long ago in the Black Shroud with my partner since he wanted to meet Caesius. I just threw on the generic starting gear since it looks reasonable enough. He's using an alias to help blend in.

RE: Let's get some Garlean role-play going! - Daca'li Molkoh - 10-04-2013

This looks like a fantastic idea. Ever since I started playing the game, I was always enthralled with the idea of the Garlean Empire and -really- wanted to be among them. This could be due to the fact that I love playing the bad guy; it can be heaps of fun and can provide some really interesting interactions and scenarios.

That being said, I have a character I'm currently leveling, but I have no background for him just yet. I could easily (after checking what facts I have on the Garlean Empire) create a back story that is compatible with him being a Garlean soldier. I'll throw you a tell if I manage to catch you online. I'd love to talk just to make sure I have everything straight before setting a character in stone. I'm still new to this Final Fantasy and most of my knowledge comes from what I've read.

I've got Isera rolled and am working on getting her to 15. I'll try to hit ya up in game at some point :3

RE: Let's get some Garlean role-play going! - K'nahli - 10-04-2013

If no-one minds by the way, could any possible garlean/story-related spoilers be kept in the appropriate tags? I, among others I am sure, have yet to complete the main storyline ^^" I only ask should people have an idea that involves content that hasn't been experienced by the rest of us and decides to share it here.
