RE: Gold Saucer RP - Gegenji - 02-25-2015

I've also seen plenty of role-players spamming emotes during that particular mini-game so let's cut the crap and not so subtle sniping at the expense of people who don't role-play, yeah?

Balmung isn't an official role-playing realm. Nobody has 'more right' to be somewhere and not get disturbed just because they happen to be engaging in role-play, especially when the area in question is bustling with activity.

Should you be able to role-play there? Sure! Though you'll have to grit your teeth together and acknowledge that people running around doing their own thing is part of the package. I don't buy into the idea that they're 'ruining immersion' either - there's a chat filter for a reason and you can place problematic players on ignore.

I wasn't sniping at non-RPers (Zalera doesn't HAVE RP, as far as I know). More just griping at the fact that my first GATE I participated in consisted of a huge crowd of people with a good dozen or so just spamming the emote buttons like there was no tomorrow. It was a good thing it was a vision-based event otherwise I would've lost any and all text in the scroll.

And wondering how horrible it'd be to try and RP with someone else in close enough vicinity to when the GATE appears. It'd be like with the major events like the Balls - and, to a lesser degree, the Quicksand during peak hours - where a ton of things are going on at once. Except, instead of several mini-RPs going on at once and overlapping, it's a handful of people just spamming away with the emotes.

I'm just saying it probably would've been a good idea to have those emote buttons for the GATE be coded to do the /x motion emotes instead of just /x. If for nothing else than to keep chatlogs from getting flooded with waves and crying and whatnot both before and during the event.

EDIT: To continue with the RP side of the thread, though... what's everyone's thoughts on having IC Triple Triad decks and Chocobo Races?

After all, you can challenge other players to TT, and you can form a party and the party leader can queue everyone up for a race. There's tons of potential right there for fun little IC interactions and events, I'm certain. A FC-sanctioned chocobo race, for example, with brackets and betting and everything! Or just having a TT deck that fits your character that they can bust out during off hours or over a drink.

I mentioned the IC TT deck idea elsewhere, actually, and I think it could be loads of fun. Cards that fit the character themselves, or a "gimmick" theme where all the cards follow a specific pattern. Obviously, it would have to be for more casual "winning doesn't really matter" interactions as opposed to, say, player-created tournaments... but I think it could make for an interesting ice-breaker or something besides just leaning on railings and grabbing drinks at the Quicksand.

"Hey, you play Triad?" could be a new opening line for interactions. Laugh

Chachan's Deck: Chocobo/Cactuar/Tonberry/Behemoth/Godbert (3/5 complete! Big Grin )
Judge's Deck: Demon Wall/Titan/Odin/Bahamut/Gaius

I've been tossing around the idea of triad as being a way to resolve RP fights...like Yugi-oh or something (CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYLES!)

.. this is a semi serious post.

Or on ICE!

... I just realized that you can't play TT on the backs of your mounts, and now I'm suddenly disappointed. CARD GAMES ON CHOCOBOS. Play while you race and win while you win!

RE: Gold Saucer RP - Chris Ganale - 02-25-2015

The only problem with privately-queued chocobo races is that you can't spectate a race.

Ah, true. Hrm. Well, at least it'd be simple enough to see the results even if you can't spectate it - someone can just screenshot the results page at the end. So you'd have that at least for doing things like bets and such. Just losing out on ICly shouting at whatever bird you bid on to run faster or grab that powerup or whatever.

RE: Gold Saucer RP - Kellach Woods - 02-25-2015

I understand how the plus rule works and I can't figure out setups to beat the King. Granted, I'm going in with a heavily edited deck and the disparities between the figures doesn't help.

I'm also trash at this game in general (not just TT) so w/e.

RE: Gold Saucer RP - Chris Ganale - 02-25-2015

Here's the simple breakdown:

  1. Use the starting deck of coeurl, dodo, bomb, mandragora, and sabotender.
  2. Get first move. If he gets it, odds of losing go up substantially.
  3. Put dodo in bottom right corner. He will almost always put Godbert above it.
  4. Put mandragora in top left corner. He will almost always put Titan or Greg to the right of it.
  5. Put coeurl in bottom left corner. I forget what he puts to take it.
  6. Here you can either cinch the win or gamble a bit. If you want to gamble, put sabotender in top right corner and pray he doesn't put anything in the middle. If he does, you lose.
  7. Put bomb in middle. Watch everything flip.
  8. Profit!

30 tries, 30 fails.

Either my Eorzea's worst luck is kicking me in the dick for the 9001th time or it's just not that valid.

RE: Gold Saucer RP - Chris Ganale - 02-25-2015

The key is him putting his cards where they need to be. If Godbert doesn't go into middle right and Titan/Greg into top center, you gotta basically play it by ear and pray.

RE: Gold Saucer RP - Spethah - 02-25-2015

Guess I'm stuck to punching Greg for a ponytail.

RE: Gold Saucer RP - Chris Ganale - 02-25-2015

Chocobo races are at least entertaining and have an okay payout. I don't think you have to pay to do them either.

RE: Gold Saucer RP - Kage - 02-25-2015

Choco races are 10 MGP each

RE: Gold Saucer RP - Chris Ganale - 02-25-2015

Ah. Still, that's pocket change when you get like 50+ even if you don't win.

Playing it by ear is how I managed to Plus-wreck other characters. I'll just re-do the starter and go with that, then.

Proof of that, I've gotten more wins over the King tonight when HE started. Urianger WRECKS this strat hard because he has plus against that set-up - if your choices are bottom center, center and top right, you NEED to put the Sabo in top right or else you're eating Urianger to the face.
