If we're going to go by game statistics, Seekers of the Sun are supposed to be of equivalent strength to Midlander Hyurs. Base strength statistics for all the various clans do actually reflect their cultures and the like. Highlanders have a higher base strength pool than Midlanders for obvious reasons. Seekers have a higher strength pool than keepers. Seawolves have a higher strength pool than Hellsguard (who are more magically inclined). Could go on and on, but, bottom line, Seekers and Midlanders are equivlanet.

I've wanted Greatswords for Merri ever since he first came into being some five years ago. It's been a long, long wait, but I'm absolutely psyched for it. That being said, I'm not so sure I plan on playing him as a Dark Knight. He's far to upbeat and positive of a character to go down that road, though I suppose it depends entirely on how dark magic plays out in Eorzea.

I don't ever plan on turning Endemerrin into some dark, seething character, as it's just not something I'd enjoy playing, so unless he can keep his general joviality and wield dark magic, it's probably not going to happen. That, and as a character he was built to be abysmal at wielding magic for a handful of reasons, so that'd be another hurdle to overcome.

But yes please, greatswords.

Well, I was referring to lore, not stats, but that being said, Kale would also snerk at Midlander DRKs for the same reason. Given the racial remarks NPCs make, like in the Miners' Guild having a Roe tell his Midlander drinking buddy that he "holds his drink as a good as a Lala". Highlanders belief in their physical superiority over smaller races doesn't seem out of place.

It's more that Miqo'te PCs seem to be anything they fancy without consideration to the racial lore. So, super strong and buff even though this defies how Miqo'te are characterized as being more endurance-based sprinters?. Ishgardian Dragoon? Garlean noble? Stuff like that, 'Magical Miqo'te. I certainly wouldn't play a Highlander as super nimble and dextrous in comparison, or a better sprinter than a Miqo'te.

Bring on the edgelords, at any rate.

RE: Regarding Dark Knight... - Verad - 04-06-2015

Remember, you're only allowed to be edgy if you can conceal edginess. Dark clothing, tortured backstories, and brooding are all faux pas; "grittiness," interpreting the lore to be as caustic to other groups as possible, and "low fantasy" are perfectly acceptable.

Be sure to edge responsibly.

RE: Regarding Dark Knight... - Harmonixer - 04-06-2015

Despite my earlier post I think I looked at it more from the perspective of this:

- I'll have even more plate armors to mess around with, edgelord or not there's bound to be some models I'll find appealing and hopefully they can be colored.

-It's a new tank class! I quite enjoy tanking as it is. This can't be a bad thing.

-New classes are cool! More options, more RPers and certainly more players in general are a good thing to me, generally.

I make jokes about being an grimmcdeath hipster, but really- I don't see how it's any different than any other rper out there. It's just another person and it's hardly unoriginal when everyone's intent on pointing out the faults, or what they don't like in others.

My thing is, I don't like jerks. I've been incredibly fortunate that no one in-game (or here) has been a jerk about RP. Anyone that I haven't gotten along with, I can just keep the peace, nod and be on my way.

It's also been stated repeatedly that you don't have to be exactly as the Job/Class you play in game. I am in agreement with this thinking. Although, I can't help but wonder if:

With any luck, there will be a place for something mauraders with greatswords instead of axes to something to that effect. If not, someone's going to have to just play pretend that much harder than usual.

I would like to see if I can change your perception on Miqo'te PC's one day.

That being said, Highlanders do have a solid reason to believe that they are physically more 'buff' so to speak than most races except for Roe's, yes. They have a physical advantage in that aspect. Though I fail to see the physical disadvantage in the arms of a Miqo'te.

Sure, Highlanders are more naturally gifted to build arm strength, but if Miqo'te arm strength is average, it doesn't mean they're weak.

Likewise, if I'm built for endurance and leg strength, then I would utilize my greatsword as such. I would put my legs behind every swing, and go for momentum and attrition instead of relying exclusively on power. You don't have to be buff to handle one of those things, that's just how it's generalized.

RE: Regarding Dark Knight... - Khadan - 04-06-2015

I look forward to many explanations of how "bigger is not always better" and how a sword through their the lungs and heart  is oftentimes just as deadly if not deadlier than the swing of some massive piece of metal that relies on momentum and power rather than finesse and skill =P

RE: Regarding Dark Knight... - Qhora Bajihri - 04-06-2015

I'm going to be playing DRK, because I play all the classes. I love levelling the things, so I'll do it eventually without doubt.

I've taken on a teeny bit of the 'jack of all trades' idea into Qhora, with the idea that she's gone to everyone (NPCs, classes not jobs) willing to teach a thing and asked 'what can I pay you teach me that I can learn with relatively little effort'. I've scaled that back the more I play her, figuring she specializes as she comes into her own.

That being said, I can't see her touching a greatsword with a ten foot pole IC. Unwieldy, for style only, a style that doesn't suit her at all, nahhh. Not gonna do it. She might tinker with a few things from whoever's teaching machinist. She might learn how to read a few star maps from astrologians. But the greatsword, she'll probably just look at and say 'no, thanks'. She might be an emo emo kid with emo hair and emo rage, but DRK's just not my style of tea, nor hers. No big.

Now if they did scythes, and she could use it for farming vast swathes of broombrush as well... That's a different kettle of tea.

First of all, show me in the lore where it says that Miqo'te shouldn't be strong enough to wield a great sword.

Second, it's a myth that great swords were ridiculously heavy, they were not. The heaviest practical great swords were eight pounds at the most. By the way, when you're swinging around eight pounds of metal in a fight endurance makes way more of a difference than lifting power. So it's entirely possible that Miqo'te would be better at it than a Highlander if we're going with this crappy logic.

Third, watch Raubahn in the most recent cutscenes. That's proof that physical fighters use aether to make themselves stronger, which invalidates every argument about physical limitations for any race/size/gender, period.

Finally, I RP'd a Miqo'te Keeper male that was only a Conjurer, couldn't fight worth shit, hell he couldn't even read. So stuff your commentary about Miqo'te PCs.

No more than 0.08 edge per character while driving.

RE: Regarding Dark Knight... - ArmachiA - 04-06-2015

I don't see why you have to play a brooding, emo Dark Knight either. It's dark magics, probably dark aether, not really dark character. Be a chipper Dark Knight if you want too!

I've actually considered it for my Au Ra Langli - who is SUPER upbeat (Read: Annoying) and her brother will be a DRK icly - just for the funsies. But, Langli has always been a monk in every game I've put her in and it would be hard to part with. She'd basically be like Rikku with a giant sword... IT'S SO TEMPTING.

Need to see the lore on it though.

Seriously though, an upbeat cheerful Dark Knight could be awesome.

She's named already because I've used the name before Tongue

Like Armi, I use the name a lot.

But on a serious note, I wanted Aaron to have a great sword since I first bought the game. Only reason I EVER started off with PLD was because I thought they'd at least have ONE great sword. Needless to say I was disappointed.

However Rogue got me hooked. I like the dual wield look. If anything Aaron will probably be a Rogue -> Machinist -> Dark Knight in that order of frequency.

Because let's face it, Aaron all about the blades and guns.

Aleria might look sexy toting around a huge ass sword though. . . or a bigass gun. . .

This made me think of Dante from DMC. Ya know, the fun loving one from the old games and not the foul mouthed douche from that horrible remake.

Now I wanna go back and replay 3, again.
