My problem with that feature is that it says "Support-related feedback or suggestions."  Which is vague, and could mean either "Support-related feedback" OR "Suggestions," or "Support-related feedback or Support-related suggestions," which sounds more likely.

I don't think these suggestions end up being read by anyone other than the support team, since all the other buttons go to either the Game Masters or the bug squishers.

"Feedback and suggestions regarding FFXIV can be posted on the official FFXIV General Discussion forums."
It says that on the bottom, there. I'm gonna guess that means they only really want support-related feedback/suggestions being sent through this feature.

Support is a pretty loose term however. In the most elementary sense of the term, anything that makes the gaming experience easier and more enjoyable can be defined as "support", and more specific Search functions such as an IC/RP icon do fall in that category, whereas, say, asking "omg add a tankini in-game please!" would be not.

So, I've been trying out this /lfm to show I am IC and even suggested it in /shout, presenting the idea to others. So far, most people seem against it.

Honestly, I'm rather against it's use as well.
While the concept is neat, I can see it being confused very easily for people who aren't RPers. And even then, this only will really tell me who is in the RPC as the bigger community isn't here but rather in-game.

RE: Proposal for Identifying Ourselves - Paradox - 07-30-2015

I just obsessively look at people's search info. If people RP, it's usually there. Beyond that, I just look to see who already is Rping, and try to insert myself if possible. People Rp everywhere, it's not really hard to find.

RE: Proposal for Identifying Ourselves - D'aito Kuji - 07-31-2015

I tried the thing but I didn't run into anyone from here, I suppose.  Someone did walk-up but it was because of my search info.

RE: Proposal for Identifying Ourselves - Ludivine Goultard - 07-31-2015

I have the feeling that the lack of walk-ups in general RP has less to do with people not being able to identify who is IC/looking for RP and more to do with simple confidence and willingness to approach a stranger.

As most people have said, the search info usually does a good job of holding information about RP. I've seen some with things like 'send a tell for walk-ups' or 'IC if minion is out' which seems to be doing the job just fine.

While I commend the idea, I personally feel it's solving a problem that isn't there.

RE: Proposal for Identifying Ourselves - Maia - 07-31-2015

We're trying this out in our LS, and so far it's had a positive effect. One of our officers has been testing it out quite a bit, and hasn't really been that pestered by /tells for melds from non-RPers. (In fact, the main thing he's gotten is "What is that symbol for?", if anything. XD)

We had a fairly thoughtful discussion between our officers before we decided that it wouldn't do much harm to try this on for size. The benefits seemed to outweigh the effort involved, from our perspective. I also saw someone in the Thaumaturge's Guild with the symbol above their head today, and it was effective in generating the silent thought of "Oh, that person's an RPer and looking for RP!" (I already knew they were an RPer from a brief interaction. So, while they could have been looking for a Meld, I think they were using it for the purpose proposed in this thread.)

My thought is, if you don't want to use it, totally understandable! No one will ever take that freedom away from you. But in my mind, there isn't much to lose in the attempt of utilizing it, at least until SE opts to give us a true RP icon (if they ever do.) As with most things, this is just another makeshift, totally optional tool to hook people up with RP opportunities.

Disclaimer: I'm not attempting to convince anyone. I'm just adding my perspective and our experience to the topic and discussion. ^^

This is an excellent point. I've encountered a lot of role-players in FFXIV who appear very reluctant to initiate contact when it comes to role-play. This, unfortunately, also extends to them maintaining contact once an initial introduction has been made.

Obviously it's a two way thing but I'd be lying if I said my friends list didn't have more than a few role-players on it who haven't messaged me again after adding me. Sometimes this is understandable due to the real world/other responsibilities getting in the way but other times it feels like people are just too scared to put themselves out there and say 'hey, up for some role-play today?'

RE: Proposal for Identifying Ourselves - banndsand - 08-01-2015

I like this icon because I can put in my chat "LFM=IC" and not have to use any more of the very limited space than that to tell people when I am available for RP (it's hard enough to fit a brief description and tinyurl wiki links in there).
Also because I don't type up actions super fast, so if I am RPing on my own to signal "hey, look at me, I'm in-character", people walking by might not always see my messages.
Another thing is I can easily turn it off if I need to brb to go grab a snack or something, thus making me less worried that someone might walk up and think I'm ignoring them when I'm just briefly AFK. x.x

EDIT: repetitive vocabulary fix

beyond a certain group, i've yet to have anyone message me more than once for RP.

RE: Proposal for Identifying Ourselves - Z'ythe Tia - 08-11-2015

Hi everyone!

OP here, we've actually got this idea going full blown in the company now.  It's had a few benefits I'd like to highlight.

- No interruptions for your more private RP moments.  (Friends tend to message you if your in your private room enjoying yourself.  If that's your thing.)

- This helps people on your friends list find hotspots of where the RP is happening.

RE: Proposal for Identifying Ourselves - ɴᴘᴄ - 08-11-2015

Huh. I had thrown up the tag while in Limsa the other day when I actually needed a meld (recent emigrant faux pas, I suppose) and had a handful of people walk up and stare at me for a few moments before walking off. Perhaps this was the reason.

I will keep it in mind for future use.

RE: Proposal for Identifying Ourselves - KHMarie - 08-11-2015

It is a shame Square doesn't just implement it's own personal icon for RP. I mean one of the most popular servers in NA is an unofficial role playing server. Not only that but you can put the option to have a RP in what your FC does [ex. RP/Progression Casual/Hardcore etc.] so it's not like they don't know that's something people actively do in MMO's It's not like it would be something hard to put in, at least I would assume it wouldn't.

I agree though, having a status icon for RPing would be extremely helpful for walk-ups. I've only ever seen what OP suggested used once in game, and ironically I was confused considering I had never actually seen the icon used before haha.

May consider trying in the future!
