RE: Do you RP your main class? - Aaron - 10-20-2015

Aaron is any class that uses a sword or dagger. So OOC that's PLD, DRK, and NIN.

In character he's non of those, just his overwhelming preference for swords and daggers of all sizes and styles (Dual wield, two hand and single hand without the shield) led me to level all those classes.

Was gonna level MCH to give him a gun. But I just waivered that by giving him gunblades.

Yes and no. I have a character that is a dark knight but with an axe. I regularly play both dark knight and warrior so I guess that kind of makes them both my main. I usually never tie the class to its weapon though, in case a class I have more fun with comes out later down the line so I can still use the weapon from that one while keeping my IC "mechanics" around.

That is my melee oriented character. It's hard to flip flop around like that as easily on my magic based character since the weapon actually matters. I suppose that character is technically a thaumaturge. I try to go outside the box for actual usage of the magic IC and do things that aren't in game spells. I know there are some people out there that get booty bothered whenever anyone does something that doesn't have an in game skill tied to it, especially for magic characters, but I try to keep it reasonable.

In the end for me, lore is a good framework to work within but when some things just don't make sense [ Like a warrior -only- using an axe? Warriors have never ever tried using a sword? ] I tend to stray towards 'Does it add or detract from a good story to enforce this'. When writing feels lazy and sloppy I'll call it out, but minor nitpicks are something that I've never payed much mind to because it doesn't really detract from a good story.

I RP my main job. Beyond the obvious glamour access, it does add an extra layer of connection to the character. I wouldn't say it's at all required though.

not in the slightest. I main whm and in RP Xelha is just very vague about what it is she actually does. she does magic....things. Or something. My alts Lothaire and Therese are somewhat different. Lothaire is indeed an IC summoner, though hes not entirely sure what that means, and Therese is a bard.

RE: Do you RP your main class? - Mia Moui - 10-21-2015

I do - kinda.  She an adventurer of a kind, not particularly willing but driven by an important goal.  I doubt that she'd self apply the term "adventurer" to herself.  She's just someone looking for answers.  I don't think she'd have a particular class.  She's a GLD in-game but she's more or less a regular person with a sword, shield, and surprisingly good armor.

I enjoy a head canon that twists the PVE into something that involves my character searching for her lost sisters.  She often gets annoyed at the menial tasks it takes to earn enough gil for travel, food, or gear.  And she loathes having to kill things with no direct reward for herself (she won't be eating the turtle soup).

When she interacts with an NPC, if possible, I'll imagine they may have or may not have information about Miqo'te trafficking or her sisters specifically.  When she encounters a villainous NPC, they are the ne'er do wells who might be thinking she's asking too many questions.

Sometimes stuff just happens and she'll get thrown way off on a tangent because one thing leads to another, none of it helping her reach her goal.  That's fun too.

Technically yeah. My main is BLM, and obviously Quki isn't a BLM.

But Quki's a thaumaturge.

I used to but my partner took away all the fun by being obsessed with fire, and in the end I felt like more of a tool. Now I'm the mature husband that keeps his wife from burning people.

RE: Do you RP your main class? - Momo - 10-24-2015

Is Momo a summoner in-character?  Yes.  Does it come up often?  Not really.  Momo has two of the three summons from various methods, but rarely feels an absolute need to use them, and never summons any kind of Carbuncle for the same reason, so in essence, yes, he is a summoner, but really he is a retired Free Paladin and foremost an academic.

I am not much for minimalism, so I think it is okay to RP as your job/class.  As long as you do it well and within the lore, you should be fine.  Should you choose to do so without discretion, beware awkward social situations, and lack of steady RP partners of any quality.  Have fun, but always remember this is an RP community, not just your world, so have some decency to allow others the same courtesy and play as close to the lore as you can while still letting yourself be happy!

RE: Do you RP your main class? - Kaiz - 10-24-2015

I RP Kaiz as a kind of offshoot of his main class. He's a Warrior, but I RP Kaiz as a 'Monster Hunter', which is more a marauder with some rangery quirks instead of the berserking.
