...gods I miss succor.

Holy Succor being gone is something I rail on from time to time. It was too beautiful for this horrid world.

For those who missed out on the glory that was PLD pre-2.0: (seriously I love what the battle team did to for the other classes but PLD was such a huge step backwards)
Holy Succor - Was a self cure about 1.5x the potency of a WHM's Cure I, but it gave you a buff that if any healer cured you while that buff was up, you + any party member in AoE range would get a super potent regen for like 10s. AND, the PLD gained enmity off of that cure+regen effect.

Oh then there was Aegis Boon!
Aegis Boon - Defensive buff which 100% guaranteed you'd block the next attack, nullifying the damage completely and actually restoring HP in proportion to the damage that would've been dealt to you. So back when Coincounter used to be really hard, a PLD could eat a 1000 Tonze Swing with Aegis Boon and instead of taking 4k damage (which back in the day was way more than most tanks WAR or PLD had) you'd gain like 900 HP back from it.

/sigh Them were the days...
/insert old man saying back in my day gif
Aegis Boon sounds good, but wow Holy Succor seems broken as hell for the way the game goes now! It's a very -paladin- ability though.

For those of you wondering, yes, that is a conjury wand.

Holy crap, that's just like my Paladin glamour, but on a conjurer! I actually spoke to this guy minutes ago and didn't even notice... PLS SE, I'LL GIVE YOU ALL OF MY MONEY

The same armor/uniform shows up on bowmen, conjurers, and pugilist Ishgardians in the new trial as well.

That's cuz I flubbed and combined two PLD skills into one! Woops. (The payoff to Holy Succor was that it had a rediculously high MP cost at the time, so you could only realistically cast it 4-5x max per fight.) I was looking up said MP cost when I realized I made a woops.

Holy Succor = 1.5x potency of WHM Cure I, and if cast on another player you also received 50% HP restoration of whatever you cured for. Crit Heal that DRG who stands in AoEs for 1200, get 600 HP back for yourself. Plus all the juicy enmity that came with.

Divine Veil = Grants buff that, if you receive a cure spell, grants all players within range a Medica II-strength regen. And all enmity from cure+regen went to Tank instead of healer.

Merp my bad. Still, both spells were super super juicy for PLD.

TL;DR - PLD used to be super awesome and had tons of utility, until 2.0 made it derp. Yes, I have a million buffs that all do the exact same thing and I just sit here and take damage. No healing, nothing cool, no utility. It's all good. Don't mind me. I'll just sit here.

Also, on topic, heavy tank armor with high DEF rating actually used to mean something (kinda) in 1.0 under the "dLvl System" where an enemy's level and attack power were weighed against your level and DEF rating to determine damage floor/ceiling. Straight damage mitigation percents weren't a thing yet. I think the only ability in game that straight mitigated was Sentinel and that ability was OP and it only reduced damage by -20%. (pretty weaksauce now)

So if you were a THM in 1.0 wearing heavy armor, you didn't actually suffer too much damage penalty for wearing tank armor (cuz INT was kinda broken) but you'd be about invincible.

Now days, DEF doesn't really do much. So tank armor on a BLM would probably be useless and just lower their damage, not actually make them survive better. Which is kinda counter-intuitive for a ranged DPS.

But from a lore standpoint, there's no reason a mage couldn't wear armor. It shouldn't lore-wise dampen their ability, just most aren't physically suited for the task. Also...

Having a character that beat him up several times in the name of education, Berrod can confirm.

Pushing him off the canyon edge didn't count though. I don't think armor could help anyone with that.
