I've just started "Overload," a linkshell for folks like you and I who belong to too many linkshells and are seeking a place to discuss their pearl addiction with other like-minded Eorzeans. Its not the nobility in him, its the echo of it pasted down to him from those who touched it then slipped away. Its not used to control others. Its really just what I use to explain while gentle and quiet nature, while being a really big and ripped Highlander. RE: Nobility in RP - K'nahli - 10-13-2013 My character's "nobility" was born solely from family wealth but I never really considered it to be a term linked solely with a distinguished bloodline. His family is simply high class and therefore influential, albeit I don't see this ever making an appearance in my RP unless someone chooses to recognise my families name and say: "Oh, from the xxxxxx family of Ul'dah?" ..or something. I'd like to see people who paid more attention to the political side branding together like you are implying with your linkshell, sharing ideas and perhaps moderating the RP a bit. If it is interesting and everyone can agree that your opinions and actions are influential among the Ul'dahn people and not actually authoritative then I'm sure I can get on board with any ideas you might have, should I ever be in a position that they negatively or positively affect my character. However, I won't rule some form of authority out either, but do share your thoughts ^^ RE: Nobility in RP - Kismet - 10-13-2013 This is kind of a tricky subject for me... I've never been fond of dealing with players who play characters of a noble background (especially after immediately coming from GW2, which had a ridiculous explosion of them). While this obviously does not apply to everyone, I have RARELY seen the concept being handled well. I've seen people get godmoddy/marysue-ish with it, use it to establish a circlejerking clique, or just use it has an excuse to carry out some grand multi-authored Game of Thrones fanfiction with their own characters pasted in. =_= SE does not treat "nobility" in this game in a 100% traditional, historical sense. That's fine. However, like SO many other things in FFXIV's lore right now, I feel as though the specifics behind such are not complete? Or at least not entirely clear. Is it just extreme wealth = nobility? Or is there more to it than that? Does it depend on the city-state they're in? Or how much property they own? If they're new money or old money? What definitely makes a noble a noble in FFXIV's setting? I don't know what the answer to that question is yet. If I encounter an RPer who claims nobility, I will not outright ignore them... But how I react to it (or one of my characters, rather), is something I'm still debating with myself. It may depend on how it is presented to me. Edit: I did read through the other 'Nobles?' thread, but I would like better clarity. All I got from that thread was 'extremely rich people are nobles, especially if they're Ul'dahn'. Am I overlooking something? RE: Nobility in RP - LandStander - 10-13-2013 Hahahahaha, GW2 did have a ton of "nobles". There was someone I knew on there that joked out saying that there was not enough land to give to all of them so they all had to settle on their own square cubic foot of family land. RE: Nobility in RP - K'dath - 10-13-2013 And that's why Charr are the master race. You humans with your 'nobility'. The land belongs to the Legions. Though, the country I used I made up and is not even from Eorzea, but another section of Hydalean. She keeps that she's a Princess a secret though, as she ran away from home, and at least in her story, I'm not ready to have her go back RE: Nobility in RP - Faye - 10-29-2013 ![]() I'm just going to leave this here and merrily continue RPing a Lady from Gridania. ![]() RE: Nobility in RP - Brave - 10-29-2013 (10-29-2013, 09:49 PM)Faye Wrote:While I'm glad you were able to find some canon sources to continue your idea of being a noble... General is the "Host" window, so you can move it, but not separate it iirc. I keep two up as well, one for validating my combat log against my parser how ever. I may revisit the idea in the future since I've enjoyed playing that sort of character before. |
