Now, if I want to bring things back on topic... I actually have a little bit of criticism for the polyamory guide. I will admit that this is a very nitpicky critique, but it's been nagging at me for a while so I figured I'd finally just touch on it.

I personally feel that the whole guide is... well... really long-winded. Every major post you've made in it thus far could be condensed into one or two simple, concise paragraphs. Is the need for such verbose elucidation meant mostly to cater to RPers who have zero experience in romantic RP, polyamorous or not?

I don't find it nitpicky at all Smile it was done intentionally so that people of all experiences could glean something from it. I'm very well aware most who are likely to look at it will scoff to themselves like "Anyone who's RPed for a few years should know this stuff!". Personally most of what I have covered are things I learned within the first few years of RP that later became fine tuned with experience.

I also received a more private comment that some parts of it were redundant. Part of that is my own writing impediment I have to go back and edit on due to my seizures, and others it's meant to repeat the same thing two or three times throughout to really drive the point home.

I'm always welcome to suggestions and will fine tune things as I go. For now, 90 percent of what I received from others have been really appreciative of how it's laid out so I'm hoping it's helping those who need things put into frank text.

I think this gets more into preferences as a reader - I didn't find it particularly long winded, myself. It was a pretty easy read, and quite clear in general, the vertical "communication" notwithstanding (I suspect that was some formatting weirdness with the forum). You've got a good point about the intended audience, though. Personally, I feel that it's better to err on the side of verboseness in a guide, since it's implied that the intended audience is less experienced with the sort of activity that it's a guide to.

^^^ This right here as well Smile

In a way, it can even be intended as a guide to 'regular' genre of romances as well (monogamy for example) since both sides share similar issues with differences in scope and specifics.

Over all I try to keep in mind "If I was new and completely clueless, would this make complete and total sense to me?".

Ah, that all sounds entirely fair to me. Smile The length of the guide aside, as long as it effectively delivers said point clearly, I have no other qualms. And you communicate your point very well, imo. No arguments there.

I agree with it being a reader's preference, which is why I was a bit afraid of how I was coming off there. >< Some people prefer a larger volume of clarification by nature and I actually must remind myself of this often.

Thank you! <3

RE: Discussion of "Polyamory: A Roleplaying Guide" - ArmachiA - 12-31-2014

The slutshaming post was great. I've had more than one person judge Loki oocly for "being a whore." Hell, I've had people say it about Armi since she's had a few boyfriends (And Armi is definitely no where near a "slut").
I have to roll my eyes at people who think "You're character is a slut" and look down their noses at you.

RE: Discussion of "Polyamory: A Roleplaying Guide" - Parvacake - 12-31-2014

Yeah, same. Granted, I'm one of those that snickers when I'm called a slut and respond with snark like "Slut just means I get laid more then you do". My characters usually shrug since those that level those comments ICly rarely ever are ones that know my characters, or say it because my character rejected their own.

When I've had it done on an OOC standpoint where IC is involved, I've gotten more intolerant of it. Though its usually one of those things you hear second hand and not often to one's face Smile

This has been my experience as well. Usually snarky comments heard via a friend who heard it from someone else I assumed was a friend. OOC comments like that usually earn a swift removal from my friend list. ICly, Mel would likely relish in it and ask one to take a number. LOL.

To each their own!

I'm going to posting a more in depth section on communication that will stem towards RP in general as well as poly. Some of it will include OOC communication as well as IC.

Giving this thread a little bump since I've updated and finished my guide so any questions or commentary doesn't flood the original thread Smile
