Writing Resources/Tools? - Oscare - 02-18-2015 I dunno if there's a thread like this, so MODS, BRING DOWN THE HAMMER OF JUDGEMENT IF I HAVETH WRONGED. But I wanna see what some of you guys use to help you with your writing -- be them essays, prompts, roleplay, etc. Maybe we could get them widespread and people will have more things to use to expand their writing or characters. Personally? If you can tolerate tumblr, writeworld is one of the absolute best sites of life. What it does:
Anyone else wanna share? :D RE: Writing Resources/Tools? - Maril - 02-18-2015 Yes, finally somewhere I can paste all of those imgur links I've been favoriting! http://imgur.com/account/favorites/tGgCSCN - circle of feelings http://imgur.com/account/favorites/6pR3YCO - How to say.. http://imgur.com/VI85fL8 - Body language cheat sheet. EDIT: Found one more: http://imgur.com/dy3fxFd ^_^ RE: Writing Resources/Tools? - Parvacake - 02-18-2015 For those who enjoy musical inspirations for writing... https://plug.dj/dashboard It's quick and easy to sign up at, and you get to have your own little DJ station. It's a LOT of fun for writing groups or RP because you can DJ music for you and your RP partners that can fit the setting without having to constantly share links in chat. I don't use it as much but it's a fun little tool! I'm saving these. I keep using the same things over and over and over. Praise be the Sastra. I got a nice amount of tools and resources to add to this list! My main links are tons of Name-Generators because I can't do Names.. but my favorite, ABSOLUTE favorite link out of all of my Writing Reference bookmarks is this one. http://donjon.bin.sh/ Oh and Tip of the tounge. Best site ever http://chir.ag/projects/tip-of-my-tongue/ It helps remember words that mean the thing. :> RE: Writing Resources/Tools? - Maril - 02-18-2015 (02-18-2015, 09:00 PM)Duskwright Wrote:(02-18-2015, 08:46 PM)Sastra Wrote: Yes, finally somewhere I can paste all of those imgur links I've been favoriting! That is very odd, the links all work for me :o Maybe Imgur is having troubles. Unfortunately, it seems the body language cheat sheet doesn't work for me either. FC wide plots are spreadsheeted, random notes on random vocals for spells are notepadded. RE: Writing Resources/Tools? - Edvyn - 02-18-2015 the best writing tools are often your friends, i have a bunch of friends and they're all tools write stuff, give it to a friend without telling them you wrote it, listen to what they say you now know if your writing is bad or not ![]() RE: Writing Resources/Tools? - C'kayah Polaali - 02-19-2015 The best way to improve as a writer is simply to read. A lot. That said, RP has particular demands in that you're writing *quickly* with little to no ability to edit what you write. I've found a few things in particular that have helped me improve my writing in RP: Michael Moorcock was an extremely prolific writer who made very conscious use of story structures in order to churn out books quickly. He wrote a book about it (ha-ha), which is hard to come by these days, but there's a distillation of the book here. I've made use of a number of writing books to help, too. Amusingly, most of the books that I really take advice from for RP are screenwriting books. Something about the format just translates better. The best books for me are:
