Characters You Will Never Play - GloryRhodes - 05-13-2015

We all have them, these character concepts that are just too perfect, and that we want to share with the world, but which we will never play.  Whether it's a lack of time, or space, or just that we don't feel like levelling up an alt, these characters are lost to the world, trapped forever within our own minds.

This is a place to share those character concepts with the world.  I'll provide an example and sharing format below.

Name: Kevin Carpenter
Concept: Brolander Blade
Race: Midlander
Quote: "Are you like, trying to bribe me?  Not cool, bro."

Character Traits:
He's super into pugilism right now.  He's only a Blade until his gladiator career takes off.

Wears "Demolish" shirts.

Isn't really into politics because, "Monetarist or Royalist?  It's all the same, bro."

Has named his chocobo "Firebird."  He has a tattoo of the Doman letter that means "Cabbage Dog".

His only pickup line is, "Hey, I'm a Blade."

He hopes he never has to use his sword, but he's like, totally ready to do so if necessary, bro.

He refers to himself as "The thin red line."

He totally banged that hot catchick that hangs around Hildebrand.  Seriously bro, it was like, last summer when he was in Costa.

Never learned to read because "When are you gonna use that in real life?"

What's sad is that the closest I have to this obvious gag character is Chao...

RE: Characters You Will Never Play - Zyrusticae - 05-13-2015

Name: Ceceras Ceras
Concept: Most Adorable Thing on Two Legs
Race: Dunesfolk Lalafell
Quote: "Ah, h-h-h... hello. Nice to m-m-meet you..."

Character Traits:
Totally passive. Has no initiative of her own.

Suffers from pretty severe social anxiety. Avoids eye contact. This only makes her cuter.

Loves sweets and is easy to bribe with them (though why you would want to, I'm not sure).

Has very distinct curly red hair (#2 reason why she will never be made, unless Squeenix hears my plea).

Stutters. A lot. Can be very grating at times, but also very endearing at others. She doesn't have this problem with people she's close to.

Has incredible potential as a caster, but never fully realizes it due to a lack of training and circumstance.

She does work as a scholar, but more as a scribe and researcher than as a caster. She actually possesses some level of respect among her peers. This can be a bit jarring for people who only ever see her cute side.

Hates being treated like a child or talked down to, but unfortunately often fails to give a case for others to take her seriously. Her failures in doing so usually only make her look cuter.

Basically, she's a character I'd play to unwind and just be cute and adorable for awhile. Unfortunately, Lalafell are too rotund for me and the lack of a proper curly hairstyle means she's kind of impossible to make as I imagine her anyways, which is a bloody shame, to be sure. Maybe for the next FF MMO, should one ever exist...

I used to want to make a character who used rolls in battle but his attacks were to look so edgy IC it'd cause his opponent to self inflict injury to themselves. The character could win a battle just by talking about how much his life sucked.

Roll 999

*Cue bitch slap to so hard, the edge becomes rounded and smooth and the character becomes a productive and violent member of Eorzean society.*

RE: Characters You Will Never Play - Warren Castille - 05-14-2015

After reading this thread and being amused at the take on a Chosen One, I've had an idea for a parody character of sorts.

Name: Pfftahahaha I never do names
Concept: The Expert
Race: Midlander
Quote: "Just let me do it."

Character traits:

*Master of all jobs
-Learned the art of Dragoon from Haldrath himself whilst Aether Projecting
-Learned the ways of the Warrior from a still-living Warrior from the Spine, who passed his weapon on just as he passed away
-Was the head of a secret circle of Sultansworn dedicated to protecting the life of the Sultana - His departure to save the world is what caused 2.55 to happen as it did
-Naturally learned how to open his chakras without needing any tutelage whatsoever
-Taught the Godsbow how to properly nock his weapon when they were children
-Trusted by the Elementals and permitted to use Succor, and is instrumental in helping the Shroud recover post-Calamity
-Able to channel his immense aetherical capacity and can tap the void to aid in his Thaumaturgy, can cast without a gemstone because reasons
-Completed the entire course of Arcanima available prior to Limsa's academy opening
-Has defeated all Primals in their True Forms, fought in the Lifestream itself as they were being summoned
-Can speak to fae and is considered a Nymeian by fae and tonberry alike
-Grew up in Limsa and ceded control of the Rogue's Guild to Jacke after intentionally losing a dice game

In short: He is the best at everything, ever, and you should probably just let him do it.

I would adore making a sentai character PUG, but there's not a lot of good sentai-style outfits, and I would be seeing even less RP than I already am.

Still would be funny though. XD

In a less insane vein, I wouldn't mind crafting Kali Kalrath, but that MSQ gating...

RE: Characters You Will Never Play - Aduu Avagnar - 05-14-2015

Name: Mary Sue
Concept: Really fucking normal
Race: Midlander
Quote: "no really, I'm just a farmgirl here to trade food at the market"

Character traits:
  • really normal, I mean super normal, family are together, no fighting skills or magic
  • standard body shape, nothing really stands out
  • did I mention how normal she was?

RE: Characters You Will Never Play - Gegenji - 05-14-2015

Name: Whai'li Kiyoti
Concept: Chocobo-Hunter
Race: Keeper Miqo'te
Quote: *low-toned, formless grumbling*

Character Traits:
Amazingly intelligent and able to cobble wondrous things from the most mundane materials. However, only uses them to try and catch Chocobos, which he sells to an unnamed third party who sells them to eager horsebird owners.

His ego and over-excitement regarding the hunt often leads to minor issues with his creations and numerous failed captures. Some of his failures are so oddball that they can only be described as comedic. Seems to have a knack for always finding a cliff to fall off of on the faster chases.

Has broken almost every bone in his body at least once, his various injuries giving him a very scruffy-looked appearance.

While he doesn't look it, he somehow has quite the wellspring of money. Enough so that he can always afford whatever strange component or device he needs for his hunts. Considering hunting Chocobos is all he does, one has to wonder if it's truly that lucrative a job, or if he's getting gil from elsewhere.

Has a personal agenda to catch "Malmfoot," the fastest Chocobo in Eorzea. At first it was just to show he could do it, and then to take it as a personal mount. Considering all the trouble he's had with it, he's decided to just eat it once he finally manages to catch the obnoxiously fast (and disturbingly smart) horsebird.

~*~

Joke referential character that is fun to think about, but I couldn't in any seriousness actually play. I like to image he's out there, though - likely in the vast expanse of the Sangoli - chasing after Malmfoot using ceruleam-powered carts and comically large catapults.

RE: Characters You Will Never Play - Mercurias - 05-14-2015

Name: Chivalorous Hester
Concept: Coward and Gambling Addict who keeps getting roped into saving the world.
Race: Hyur
Quote: "No. I'm not going to do it. The tables are full and I've got good cards. You can't make me leave and chase the Lord of Bloody Darkness and Evil or stop the Armegeddon Magnet or whatever bloody thing you want me to do. The only time I'm going to run off and the only time I'm going to leave this table are the same time, and that is when I run out of money, so leave me a-..." *checks cards again* "Well then, shall we be off?"

Chivalorous Hale believes in Fate. He believes he's fated to strike it rich, that Nymeia has granted him an inordinate amount of luck and that, despite all the evidence to the contrary, he's going to meet a bright future by doing nothing but cheating at cards, a lucky high-risk venture, and maybe the mildest of petty larcenies when no one is looking. He believes himself to be a charmer, the snake-oil salesman who can take a tin of paint and a run-down racing bird and turn it into someone's fantasy, the mighty and inexhaustible gold chocobo. After all, when you sell dreams, they only need to last until you leave and their eyes open to the truth.

Sadly, Nymeia has more in store for Chivalorous. She intends for him to live up to the silly, made-up name his Dirt-farming, illiterate Limsan parents gave him and turn him into a force of good and change in Hydaelin, even if he has to do it while kicking, screaming, and dragging furrows into the dirt with his fingernails.

Circumstances forces Chivalorous into the Battle of Carteneau, joining the ranks of the Maelstrom in order to escape, however temporarily, a small mountain of gambling debts that had left him bound to the life of a fugitive. Having found that a coward's survival tendencies make for excellent instincts on the field of battle, he received a field promotion to Sergeant and, after having his initial plan of bravely charging as far away from the battle as possible rebuffed by his superiors, led his command into the thickest of the fighting, hoping to go all the way through and out the other side before anyone noticed, yelling bravely (but with a whiny, high-pitched edge to it) all the while.

This led him to be one of those legendary Warriors of Light hurled into the future, his name and reputation wiped clean from the annals of history.

Including his gambling debts.

For all of about three days, which was how long it took for him to be run out of the township of Swiftperch with nothing but the clothes on his back, to start it all over again with nary a lesson learned.

Defining Characteristics
  • Cowardice - "What good is being destined for riches if I won't be alive to spend it!?"
  • Cynical - "Yes, because love and truth and goodness will save the day rather than, I don't know, maybe not trying to convert the man we just saw grilling a kitten over a house fire that he started!? He's still got fur in his teeth!"
  • Over The Top - "Why on Hydaelyn would a man live small and within his means? Why would he speak in small and measured words? Life is bombastic, explosive, riddled with dreams, riches, and quite clever sounding words whose meanings you don't really have to understand to sound impressive! Every breath taken is Nymeia's gift because she could easily put some manner of brain-devouring spore in it to turn you into some manner of gibbering imbecile! Sing a bawdy song! Buy a handsome and talkative chap a drink! Maybe roll some dice! Live! Doesn't that sound ever so much better than pointing that sword at me? Friend? It was only a few thousand gil, after all."

Why I Can't Really Play Him

A character like this needs cooperation from a group, because otherwise they'll actually let him run away. The driving force behind the character is that he's being forced into acting on the tiny smidge of better nature he possesses, and that means he'll need someone to force him. I would have to find a group willing to put up with that nonsense, and frankly there aren't many who wouldn't in the heavier RP scene where motives are supposed to be deeper, and while I could take this character and give him a great deal of depth, most likely, I still don't think I could find the time and the correct group to do him justice.

Shantotto.

If given freedom, I would simply just RP Shantotto, and godmod blow up anyone who looks at her funny while she laughs her smug little ass off.

Instead, I just have Nira, who, when stricken by bouts of violent mania, I refer to it as 'having gone full Shantotto'

RE: Characters You Will Never Play - cuideag - 05-14-2015

Name: Gosh, I dunno. U'fihk Tia or something. It might not even be his real name.
Concept: Dawn of the First Day, ~1440 Hours Remain~
Race: Seeker Miqo'te
Quote: "Are you sure I won't be a bother?"

I had a thought for a sort of experiment, in a way, but I never got around to rolling him and I don't think I ever will due to time and stuff. Hella props to those of you who manage to juggle more than one alt.

So this deep Sagolii catte got knocked off nuhn status a good while ago (maybe pre-Calamity even) and he's been sort of just tagging along with the tribe since, teaching the kiddos and doing whatever little things he could do. But he's been getting weaker and sicker and he knows he's about at the end of his ropes. He says his goodbyes, as he knows how dangerous it is to be a burden on the tribe, and he leaves.

I was going to just RP him around Ul'dah at first. No levelling aside from maybe level 15 at the most, or whatever it is so you can at least ride the boat to Limsa. He has no job so he would have to beg for food, has no real strength any more so he can't fight. Just has his personality and his stories. I was going to see if I could RP him around the world at least once within, say, 60-90 RL days. No airships - all travel would have to be on foot or via ferry and take a few days because yeah the world has got to be a frillion times bigger than what we see represented in-game. Can't go anywhere without RP companions cause he'd get lost/eaten for sure so if his companions move on without him he'd be stranded wherever until he could RP up more travelling companions. Nothing scripted, no calling on people I already know, just straight up RP at strangers and see if it sticks. Maybe set up a blog to keep track of what he's up to, where he's going, what hasn't killed him yet, and who he's travelling with.

Anyway at the end of whatever time limit I'd pick, that... would be it. I'd stop logging him in because he'd have died, be it en route to somewhere or otherwise. Maybe send a note to whoever he was with that they might have found his body somewhere. But that'd be it! And if I happened to hear about this weird grandpa catte via like.. a story, or actually catch someone talking about him in game while I'm doing my thing? That'd be pretty dang rad.

RE: Characters You Will Never Play - McBeefâ„¢ - 05-14-2015

Name: Diolor Genese
Concept: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diogenes_of_Sinope
Race: Elezen
Quote: "Piss Off"

I would just wander around Ul'dah and live in a barrel.

He would eat random garbage, and masturbate in public.

He would also harass people and tell them they're shit, and why their philosophy is bad.

Ancient philosophers are fun. Alternate concept, Socrates.
