Are there any serious RP servers besides Balmung that I could use to RP with others? I'm brand new to the game and want to get invested into some FFXIV roleplay.

There's an entire Linkshell/FC section for non-balmung and non-Gilgamesh RP.
Otherwise you'd have to ask around on the server you're on or look around on Enjin as well.

A linkshell is a chat function. No different than speaking in party chat etc only you are only speaking to the people who are in that specific link shell. Thick of it as a guild chat without the guild. A free company is just FFXIV's word for a guild. An FC can have it own house, activate perks etc.
