Newish to RP in MMOs - DisingenuousJely - 07-02-2015 I've always enjoyed the idea of rp in mmos. The problem is I'm a little spaghetti-monster who has trouble putting my foot forward when it comes to just starting. I'm that kid who sits in the corner quietly enjoying himself and the fact he just gets to be here, never actually joining in unless "forced" to and I do it with all the gusto of a deer in the headlights. I spend more time making characters than being/playing them. I want to fix that. I guess to make this easier I'll just use the Template at this point. --MMORPG background You name it I've probably played it for at least a week. --RP experience I play D&D with friends. Much easier to RP when you know the people around the table. --Character ideas/info Uh, only have 2 IDEAS. 3 if you count fleshing out my purely "playing the game" character on Excalibur when I get bored. (most story will be omitted untill i get some time to make a wiki entry for them) Michelmont Chantal: Quick Summary: Friendly youngish Elezen male. Poor upbringing in Ishgard into "accomplished" marauder guild member. Just enjoying life. Dalmud happens and he is lucky enough to get out unscarred. Starts getting strong Gut feelings about things - time skip as nothing of note happens for a time - later figures out its a really shitting/weak/basically useless form of Echo after he joins up with Crystal Braves as genero-grunt #57. Teledji Adeledji does his thing, the Braves split and he lays low as someone still loyal to Alphi and the WoL. Gets word of WoL/Alphi in Ishgard and that shit is about to go down with dragons except really big this time. Makes his way back after X years to help out.
Unnamed depressed looking Au Ra:
Not sure what I want to do with him. Originally made just to see how depressed I could make a FFXIV character but I loved the way he looked so much I had to do something with him. I figure RP is a good reason to roll him out once I make some story for him. Largely depends on whether I make him Raen or Xaela and what Xalea Tribe.
http://imgur.com/BUemIDp ^lookit em... hes so sad^ --How did you learn about the coalition? Googling around specifically FOR information on the RP community in FFXIV. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Light to Medium? I mean that implies any rp is lesser than another but I get the meaning. I still enjoy the game itself so there will be chunks of time where I'm just not RPing but i know of people who stay in character all the time. I just want to add onto the enjoyment I have and being a part of, not just playing in, a well fleshed out world that just grabbed me from the start seems like a good place to increase my enjoyment. In that sense I want to be a part of the world as much as possible, I really don't enjoy the idea of anything that goes against established world cannon. The more it meshes with FFXIV the better. Does that make sense? --Anything from real life you'€™re comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) RE: Newish to RP in MMOs - Unnamed Mercenary - 07-02-2015 Hello and welcome to the RPC! Hope you have a good time here. Let me know if you've got any questions about the site, wiki, or related resources. People say I can be decent with lore questions here and there as well. (As a mod, I've also deleted the duplicate post) RE: Newish to RP in MMOs - DisingenuousJely - 07-02-2015 Oh thanks. I didnt know there was a dupe post. OH i accidentally clicked Post when i meant Preview. Then clicked it again when  i was done. Maybe thats it. RE: Newish to RP in MMOs - Faye - 07-02-2015 Hello there, welcome to the RPC! RE: Newish to RP in MMOs - DisingenuousJely - 07-02-2015 Anyone have any suggestions on how to just "Get into it"? My biggest problem is I do talking RP more than typing and the wall of text some people put it is viciously intimidating. I have seen almost no one else just the Wall of text people around Balmung. RE: Newish to RP in MMOs - Melkire - 07-02-2015 First off, welcome to RPC! Secondly, might I ask where you're hanging out in FFXIV that you're encountering these "wall of text people"? Some locales are better than others, and some are... well... many of us like to refer to it as "chat scroll" and you're more likely to encounter ridiculous amounts of text in busy areas like pubs and taverns. The Quicksand in Ul'dah (a.k.a The Adventurers' Guild) is notorious for this. RE: Newish to RP in MMOs - DisingenuousJely - 07-02-2015 Currently not on... but you probably mean where do i usually hang out. Uh Limsa and Gridania tbh. Yes I see most of the Wall of Text in Ul'dah but I have still only ever seen the Walls no matter where I go. Maybe its when I play? The people of the wall only come out when I make time to head over to my Balmung character? Edit: Also I apologize if I take awhile to reply. I have like 12 Pages open across the forums and the Wiki. Rules, Etiquette, etc. If im going to RP Ima do it in a way that pisses off the least amount of people. RE: Newish to RP in MMOs - SoraKazuma - 07-02-2015 Hello! I'm new to the forums too, and I have the same problem you do... I'm rather shy when it comes to people I don't know. But just by looking over your starting post, I think you got solid ideas to flesh out and a great starting point! RE: Newish to RP in MMOs - Nebbs - 07-02-2015 Welcome, and I would not worry about the wall of text. Most of the interaction tends to be one or two sentences, though in 1:1 RP you can increase that giving each other time to write and digest and reply. The wall of text comes more from larger events or crowded areas were the chatter scrolls faster than you can read I started on D&D and tabletop, also LARP where speaking was the way of communicating. But you soon pick up the typing thing, or some also use a voice chat software but mainly these are OOC or to coordinate activities such as PVE. A good reference, which you would get most of, is [The Role-Play Handbook] a great resource. Also check out the [RP Linkskell & Free Company Lists for Balmung] for things that suit you. A Linkshell is like an in game chat channel and you can have 8, and a Free Company is like a Guild. Fell free to come join us in [Hugs & Cakes Link Shell] where there is a nice positive bunch of RPers. |
