Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Warren Castille - 07-05-2015 Quote:[21:11]>> Warren: You do know you showed up to a rules-based competition acting like a huge antagonist, right? Reaslistically, you got murdermaimed as soon as you drew steel against the audience. So, with names scrubbed (Except for mine) I wanted to know how this floats with the general population. I was at an advertised event and some Dragoon came flying in emoting intent on audience members. Quote:[21:Same guy suddenly begins to laugh, his eyes glowing bright red as he draws his lance and begins attempting to injure as many of those nearby as possible. I don't even know what question to couch here. What the fuck is anyone supposed to take away from this? RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Reiner Dorn - 07-05-2015 Yeah...not sure man. Thanks for taking the head on that one. He ignored me! XD RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Warren Castille - 07-05-2015 (07-05-2015, 09:32 PM)Reiner Dorn Wrote: Yeah...not sure man. RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Spethah - 07-05-2015 There's trolls and then there's people like him. I don't get why someone would do that. You gain literally nothing from it other than people thinking you're a coddy pillock. Hopefully not every event has to handle this crap. Just remember: By not being open to someone attacking the crowd (because there's actual fighters here) we're being an RPC circlejerk. RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Faye - 07-05-2015 I've had people try this kind of stuff at my events before (granted, the ones at mine seemed more earnestly well-intentioned about it, even if still very misguided). Not only is it disruptive (I understand the argument of "open world RP" and I like spontaneity, but you have to understand that there is a schedule in place for these events, and people go to a date auction for date auction RP, they go to a rolling combat event to do/spectate combat RP with rolls, etc.), but people are rarely fully prepared to accept the IC fall out. People are going to hate and shun your character. People will attack and try to kill/arrest your character. People would report the incident to grand companies, and you'd realistically have NPC's on the lookout for your character. It never fails that they underestimate the amount of people who are going to dogpile onto their characters with weapons. And, then there's of course naturally no believable escape, so they always magically "teleport" away somehow. So my two cents: Don't do it, and prepare to say goodbye to your character if you do. RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Max - 07-05-2015 What a weirdo. ICly, if you're gonna draw steel with the intent to do the audience harm at a fight tournament filled with seasoned warriors, you'd probably be cut down in a instant. IDK what that guy was trying to argue with you. RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Addison - 07-05-2015 I think when people take the time out of their busy schedules and lives to plan something for an RP community, they have every right to set ground rules that promote cooperative roleplay. It looks to me as if that guy was just being a douchebag. "...he draws his lance and begins attempting to injure as many of those nearby as possible" isn't even a real emote to me. It doesn't specify who the targets were, just those 'nearby.' Well what's nearby? 6 inches? A foot? A yard? Did you stab people with your lance or did you swoop it in a horizontal arc? It leaves a lot to interpretation, and since this guy wants to play the part of the antagonist, he needs to be more specific. And honestly? If some random guy just walks into (insert public place here) and starts beating the crap out of people for no apparent reason, I'm pretty sure others would step up and try to placate him. Even if that means a punch to the head. In his half-defense, I was halfway to emoting that I casually decapitated him (unposted) because 1) I've got a history at the Grindstone and 2) You SHOWED UP AT A TOURNAMENT OF FIGHTERS AND PICKED A FIGHT. Try and jump the fence at the Octagon during the Main Event of UFC. I dare you. RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - OverlordOutpost - 07-05-2015 It's clear given the lack of specificity in the emote, the situation, and their response, that they weren't there to actually truly RP out a antagonist. They just wanted to cause issues.  You don't go to scheduled events and try to steal the spot light for your own personal RP. I'm biased, admittedly, but jumping into the crowd and attacking spectators seems the very embodiment of "stealing spotlight." You're derailing an event to make everyone focus on you. RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Uther - 07-05-2015 This is a thing people do? I thought everyone knew this was a no-no. This dude can't be older than fourteen. If he is, he's just a troll, or ...really stupid. Yeah, you're in the right to tell him to shut up and go home. "REALISTICALLY I COULD ATTACK PEOPLE" sure, but 1. you'd get killed, and 2. why would you do that? ICly and OOCly, why would you do that? ICly, it's an event (I've read) was full of people with weapons and the ability to use them. If you wanted to attack a bunch of unsuspecting people, you should go to... actually don't go anywhere. Almost everyone in this game is carrying weapons. OOCly, this is just rude, egotistical, and overall bad form. I wouldn't even waste the time being mad about this, dude. That guy was dumb. I'd forget it ever happened. EDIT: ...It is a pretty funny story, though. RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - Aaron - 07-05-2015 ......... lolwat? Some people just want attention. Shouldn't have paid him even that much attention. Good on you Warren. /goes back to crying to get off work. RE: Acceptable Things at Scheduled Events - FreelanceWizard - 07-05-2015 The rules of the organizer and event staff always trump whatever you might want to do at an RP event. Always. If you don't like it, don't go. You don't get to show up to an event and be a rude jerk.
