[Headcanon]Â
Ishgard has long fought the Dragonsong War, pitting those who fight for the Holy See against the hordes of Dravanians. It stands to reason that those who serve their terms in the military might seek another form of more lucrative fighting service afterwards. Â Perhaps, the best of these would seek service in a unit well known for their competency, their personal honor and the fact that they never, ever have abandoned or broken a contract.Â
House Valron founded this company of soldiers, and eons ago - in the faintest of memories, the company saved a group of House Fortemps Knights and some minor members of the family. This served to both elevate the elder Valron from the gentry to the nobility, and to cement the reputation of the Company in Ishgard.

Enter, <Halone's Spear>, a highly-reputed and expert group of mercenaries who style themselves as a private army, rather than mercenaries. They prefer the term "contractor", to mercenary. If you have a problem, if no one else can help - and if you can afford them, maybe you can hire the Spear.

Please, please, please contact me. I would love to bring my company to yours, to meet with others and to roleplay an actual mercenary CONTRACT.
I find that no one does that. I can rarely find mercenaries who are actually bound by service to another!

It depends how much she's willing to pay. She likely will be able to get one or two of the Spear by her side, but they're... very, very expensive.Â
They're also very good. Like, the best. Only the highest tier of fighters will be able to beat them in even a 2 on 1 situation.

That part's kinda iffy if you're dealing with other player characters, which is what I'd assume you're talking about with guard duty.
More on-topic, I like the PMC-ish kind of approach rather than the ragtag bunch of misfits angle that I see most mercenary groups take.

The people who are part of the Spear are military veterans, with professional training and years of experience. They're also trained in small unit tactics - as I said, people can choose to acknowledge our strength or not ICly! I'm not gonna tell you how to RP, merely wish that we should be treated this way.
"Imagine a modern day PMC merged with the reputation of the Golden Company from Game of Thrones." is how I like to envision this group. Ex Army Rangers, ex tier 1 Special Forces operators, etc. They come because they get paid the best for their considerable skill-set.
