New to FF, old to RP! - Mcglory - 09-09-2015

Hey guys.

I'm currently downloading the free trial to FFX14 and I'm really liking the look of it (Not sure why I've only just taken advantage of it) Anyway, I'm wanting to start 'right' as the main reason I play MMO's is for the RP, I want to start on the best server for RP. (I'm an EU player. UK time zone) Is there a Europe one, or does everyone play the same one?

Also, is there a particular faction which is particularly more popular at all?

Is the game still popular for RP?

Is the free trial to limited for RP purposes, or is it still possible to get in contact with folks? I read you can't do PM's with the trial.

And finally; is there any particular spots where I can find RP to dip my toes into? I'd like to get a feel for the RP and if I like it, subscribe.

Thanks for the help!

Welcome! Please feel free to add me or message me onhere. Depending on the rp scene you are into if you want social the quicksand in Uldah is fairly popular joing a free company or rp linkshell are also good steps!

Welcome, fellow Englishman! So to answer all the questions..

-Nope, we're stuck with the Yanks.

-The game's RP scene is very much alive!

-If free trial disables certain features, you may want to try contacting via this site.

-The Quicksand in Ul'dah is the generic tavern that these crazy kids are using these days.

Hello there, welcome to FFXIV!

There is no designated EU RP server. Balmung, however, has many EU players as well as linkshells and free companies based around EU timezones/playerbases.

Not really, all of the Grand Companies are pretty much equally popular and which one you choose effects very little in the game.

Very! The RP community is active and still growing.

The free trial is very limited. IIRC, you can't send /tells and cannot join an FC. I'm not sure how else it is limited, but in the meantime, I recommend using this site to make connections, build your character, and organize RP.

The Adventurer's Guild in each major city often have RP, most notably the Quicksand in Ul'dah. I would also suggest browsing the calendar and events subforum on this website to find RP events on the server.

Unfortunately Balmung and Gilgamesh, the best two servers for RP in open world are closed to starting character creation for long periods of time. Balmung is almost always closed except for a small less than 5 minute window after maintenance is over. Gilgamesh I believe may be open at 4am Pacific (NA time zone).

I'm not sure how well you will be able to "start" on an RP world and I have to say that it will most likely be pretty hard to RP without the ability to send tells.

The large majority of us here at the RPC are on Balmung, then Gilgamesh, with a few persons on other worlds such as Faerie, Siren, Adamantoise, Jenova...

My best suggestion for you is to use the 2 week trial to see if you like the game. Get used to the areas etc. If you feel like you might mesh well with the game, if you really really are in it for the RP, I would suggest checking out Balmung and consider the game to cost $40 (license+transfer).

Thanks for the replies!

That's good to hear on all counts, I've a character on another server in the same server group as Balmung. I quite liked the game, and after hearing the RP is still strong, I've subbed. Once the 3 mandatory days before I can transfer is up, I'll swap over.

Thanks again, looking forward to joining ya'll!

Did you just buy a license or added game time as well?

If you haven't put any game time and only bought the license, if you find someone to give you a referal, the game will give you some stuff that you can buy equipment with that will help you as you level.

(Newer person will get silver chocobo feathers which you can use to purchase stuff from the calamity salvager)

I bought the game for £10 from the online store. It came with 30 days of game time, but I don't think I've signed upto a recurring sub yet. So I will try and take advantage of this. Smile Thanks.
