IC Store Questions - Nel Celestine - 06-26-2013

Myself and Isilme will be ICly opening a store in Limsa Lominsa.  Starting around 7 months After the fall of Dalamud.  I know there is a lot of players and I wanted to be sure no one would be thinking we are forcing our player lore on others.

The store ICly will be considered mildly successful as it would allow for them to live comfortably as well as pay 2~3 employees in additional to charitable causes like reconstruction efforts.

Now, both myself and Izzy are OOC crafters and thought it would be best to mix IC and OOC for this store.  It would be a Metal Works store.  Supplying places with either refined materials for their own smiths or creating commissioned works.

Between them both they specialize in Arms, Armor and fine Jewelery.  Isilme being the weapon smith, Nel being the jeweler and they both share the armor smithing.  They will however accept other requests for items within reason.

For the OOC side of things, we would be willing to make weapons gear and what have you for either cost + tip or just tip if you provide the supplies.  Between us we have nearly every craft done and I know we'll be working on more come 2.0

So my questions are as follows:

1. Does this concept feel forceful onto the player base?
2. I plan to make an IC flyer and post it on the RP section of the forums, would that be acceptable?
3. Is there any changes or suggestions you would like to make as a community?

I think this sounds great. What harm could there be in opening a store? Good luck with sales!

RE: IC Store Questions - Desphiria - 06-26-2013

Let's see

1. Does this concept feel forceful onto the player base?

Nope, at least I don't think it is. I think it's pretty interesting and purty helpful too.

3. Is there any changes or suggestions you would like to make as a community?

Uhms, what about food or potion merchants? You know just in case some people prefer using food as healing items or some prefer potions or both?

RE: IC Store Questions - Lizzo - 06-26-2013

Yeah, this sounds like a great idea - a very helpful thing to new players especially. It could also offer IC opportunities for players to become your apprentices or one of the employees your mentioned.

My one question is: What city are you going to be located in?

Nel has some minor training with Alchemy (OOCly it's 50) so some potions could be made. As for food. Well... you can eat Nel's cooking at your own risk.

That sounds like some great RolePlay opportunities there Big Grin I like that. The shop will be in Limsa Lominsa.

RE: IC Store Questions - Noelle - 06-26-2013

I think it's neat!

And I'd support it.

My only real suggestion would be against spreading out your shope crafted stock, and sticking to those three. You've got three of the crafts covered, and they're all good ones.
Realistically a shop shouldn't try and cater to everything, and focus on doing what it does well.

It also mean you'll run less risk of treading too many toes.

That's just my thoughts on that, but I do like it.

You know not what horrors you are about to unleash, Desphiria. Go back from whence ye came, and get your lunch at the Bismark, for there is naught but suffering and indigestion here.

RE: IC Store Questions - Dehqon - 06-26-2013

I don't see how running a "mildly successful" shop would impose anything on the players or lore. Who knows, the community may spread word until your shop is THE place to go for crafted arms and armor. The only time it's imposing anything on anyone is if you outright say "Everyone comes here, even famous NPCS".

Posting a flyer in the forums is a great way to get started, actually. It gets word out, even if it's just to a few people, and those people will tell others or even offer to help you if you need a bit of a boost with something.

As for suggestions, I can't think of anything beyond what was hinted at above: Don't get too far ahead of yourself and claim that anyone who is worth knowing uses your shop. For all anyone knows, they may have their own suppliers and not need to go shopping.

RE: IC Store Questions - faceman7381 - 06-26-2013

I wish you guys luck and by no way think you are forcing anything on anyone.

I hope this will inspire others to open up similar shops with same concepts.

Oh, and for my sake I hope you guys deal in Eastern lands metals!

Great idea!

That's something I'd like to try ICly down the road. I've been interested OOCly in how Katanas are made and Tamahagane in general. It would, however, be more Izzy's route as she is the Blacksmith.

Of course. That would be going to far. Maybe a few no name NPCs would be the odd regulars. But no one of note outside of any PCs who choose to shop with us.

That's a very good point. We should stick to the "big three" so to speak with /minor/ leather and cloth work. Mostly for binds, padding and covers for chain tunics.

RE: IC Store Questions - Jayce Lightfall - 06-26-2013

This sounds like a fantastic idea. I agree with Lizzo on it being helpful to new players and offering unique RP opportunities. I know you'll probably have me as a customer once I get situated in game. Big Grin

RE: IC Store Questions - Curtis West - 06-26-2013

Hmmm, is the time right? I am asking simply out of my own curiosity and lack of lore knowledge post-cataclysm. Seven months after the big boom, would there be shops popping up? This is relevant to my character personally seeing as he is a smith, and possible connections can be made here. I've kind of RPed him being out and about surviving in the wild for two years while the cities were just beginning to recover. If they bounced back quicker than that, do let me know.
I planned on him returned to LL and working for the city to help restore it, joining the ELU. Speaking of, have you considered if your characters would be members of it? (If you don't know much about it, we can talk in PMs.)

Anyway, if you'd like to make some connections and give my character a shot at being one of those smiths working in the shop for about a year or so before game's launch, let me know Smile

Considering both myself and Isilme did not timeskip 7 months would be enough time to get things going on a rebuilding and reclaiming effort. That would cause new businesses to form to fill the need.

I will have to pass on ELU. I'm one of the core members of Crystalline but thank you for the kind offer. Also, please PM myself and Isilme if you'd like to RP working for us as a smith or such. We can see about hammering out any possibilities. Be they long or short term.

You mean right in the middle of reconstruction? That sounds like the perfect time to set up business. There'd be an immense demand for highly skilled metalworkers of all kinds, with contracts for items needed for military, bureaucratic, mercantile and personal use flying all over.

Oh, Nel! One of my characters owns a small merchant fleet that specialises in shipping metals and metalwork goods. If you need a supplier/distributor, that is. Bouncy
