New Here, couple of questions. - PsionCCC - 08-22-2013

I've pre-ordered the game and I'm looking forward to early access. I haven't played the beta or anything, so it will be an entirely new experience. I've been familiarising myself with the lore and I've created a character page on the wiki!

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Leofric_Rundall

I'd appreciate some critique and suggestions for helping flesh my character out in respects to slotting him into FF14's world lore and the like, if you have the time and inclination :3

Now for the actual questions!

1: What are the most RP compatible parts of the game? Are there things like player housing, or are there RP friendly empty areas like taverns e.t.c?

2: I've seen a lot of posts about the RP servers being full, which is kind of worrying as I haven't had a chance to even log in to the game yet. I washoping to aim for Gilgamesh, is that realistically still possible? Also is Balmung only open to a certain player base?

3: Could someone explain the namedays and their significance? A list or a calender of some sort would be greatly appreciated.

4: Is there a list of RP guilds/linkshells/free companies that I could have a look at and maybe apply for with my character?

Don't worry about the server status, it was mostly due to open beta (we suspect), it'll be worth waiting on getting into the server. If the worst comes true then I suspect the longest waiting period to get into the server will only be around a day.  Don't lose faith! lol.

Hello, and welcome to the community.
To start with your questions:

1: Yes, and yes. Taverns and such are scattered around the world and in the cities. Player housing will be implemented. During the last beta we got to see the housing area exterior.... it's a very nice area with stairs, walls and even a beach that really feels like a residential area. I don't think we know too much about the systems yet, other than that you'll get an aetheryte for your house.

2. Servers have been locking and unlocking during beta and it's likely to happen during early access as well. It should clear up shortly after launch. Balmung is accessible to anyone and anyone can make a character there--it's the people that played 1.0 that can't leave the realm (yet). If you want to make a character on Gilgamesh, you'll be able to, but it takes some patience and/or the ability to log on during off-peak hours.

3. When you create a character, you see a full calendar. The months have 32 days, so the real world correspondence puts two of the Eorzean days as the same Earth day--but other than that the conversions are direct. To find the month you want, just count down in an astral/umbral pattern until you get to the sixth set. First Astral is January, First Umbral is February, Second Astral is March.... The days don't yet have any significance, but that may be patched in.

4. Yes--we have a Linkshell hall subforum that includes Free Companies as well. You can reply to those threads to show interest, and the hall postings often also include websites for each organization. (Click Linkshells on the top navigation bar.)

All of your questions seem to have been answered well by the two lovely people above me!

So with that, all I'll say is welcome to the RPC! I hope you enjoy your time here!

As a fellow newbie I have to say that everyone is really pleasant and it's a great community to join. Smile

Here, have a moogle! Moogle

Hello, PsionCC

Welcome to RPC. To answer your question.

1. Player housing info: here. As far as I know, any places can be compatible as long as no hostile forces is nearby, this is especially true for linkshells that claimed some of the taverns and rooms and to be made their own head quarters.

2. That is a problem happened for a couple of times during Beta Test Phase 4, I don't know the details, but it is safe to assume it is some sort of test on the players limits of the servers, because the servers returns to normal in it's few final hours.

3. Sorry, I have no knowledge of its significance except role-playing value.

4. There is a link above called linkshell, if that is not enough, there is a collection of forum thread titled Linkshell Hall.

Hope these answers help you ^^

Hello, and welcome to the RPC Psion!

Looks like your questions are pretty well answered thus far, though your one question about taverns and RP within them I would like to further expand upon.

Seeing that you have been answered by RPers on both Balmung and Gilgamesh I will bring up taverns in which to RP on both servers.

Balmung: The beautiful Xenedra Ambrose runs Silioquy on Balmung. Silioquy is a performing tavern in which RPers dance, sing and create general merriment to entertain their guests. (Not sure what else, but if you want to know more be sure to speak with Xenedra!)

Gilgamesh: The young and headstrong Parker Connor (my character) will be creating Wulver's Den on Gilgamesh. The Den, as it's become known, will be an eventual Free Company where any RPer can come in and hang out in their down time. I will be purchasing (eventually) a FC house to hold the tavern and any members. I am also looking for IC waiters, waitresses, bar tenders, cooks and cleaning staff.

Take a look around the site and talk to as many people as you can on here and ingame to figure out what best fits you and your playing style! And if you're in need of a drink, don't forget to stop by either establishment and have one on the house!

Thanks, that's really handy info. I'll sling that onto a notepad for when I can finally get into the game myself Smile

I have another question, if anyone is still paying attention! In-game, is there like a bio part where you can write about your character for other people to read in-game? (Like Champions Online, or Cox)

If not, does the game support add-ons or the like?

Nope and not yet, respectively. I believe the last word on add-ons and UI customization is that they're working on it with no ETA.

What a lot of people do is put up wiki pages here, which are easy to find by character name -- but of course, that requires the other player know about the RPC and requires an Alt-Tab out of game. Also, without the character constraints of an add-on, some people (like me Blush ) produce wiki pages that'd be a bit long to read in the midst of RP.

I do love a good long wiki page, personally. It'd be good if there could be at least a way to link that through game somewhere on your character without having to spam it in chat. Oh well, I suppose we'll all just have to raise awareness of the RPC until add-ons become available!
