So my character is, among other things, a conjurer/botanist type with an interest in seedkin. I know there aren't any mandragora minions in the game (right now... *crosses fingers*) but I was wondering if it would be possible for him to have one ICly as a pet/companion/research subject.

This is all I've found about them in FFXIV:ARR, but if you've discovered anything from quest lines I'd love to hear it. (May need to put in spoiler tag.)

"The enigmatic mandragora were first observed in the aftermath of the Seventh Umbral Era. It is not known whence they came, or if they even existed prior to the Calamity. There are those who insist that the diminutive seedkin are sentient, but further research is required to confirm such speculation."

Also in some of the games they've been in, Mandragoras have been docile until attacked, so it stands to reason that some might be open to interacting with some of the more gentle / trustworthy humanoids they encounter-... Right?

Here's a link about the Mandragoras in FFXI:

Basically he might carry the mandragora around in a pouch, maybe it could help him out by crawling into small spaces and collecting moss? Simple things like that. I also like having a source of occasional humor, since my characters tend to be a bit on the "serious" side.

Mandragoras are, historically, a fairly docile breed except for some unique situations. It's easy to imagine one being 'tamed' in some way. The main factor seems to be they react poorly to violence and malice, so as long as he's not a dick to it it should work.

RE: Mandragoras? - FreelanceWizard - 08-26-2013

It seems like it'd work to me. They're non-aggressive and mobile in game, at least in lower level areas, so having a "tamed" one seems plausible. You could easily just RP its presence until a minion is available.

What they said.

Plus, they're SO cute!

Crossing my fingers for an actual minion. Not going to lie, just seeing the pictures in the OP made me all kinds of happy. Moogle

I could have sworn I saw one following a bunch of players around today, I must be hallucinating…

o-o

You're right.

There is a Mandragora minion, called Kidragora.

Just found this list of minions, looks like I can get a BUNCH of little seedkin buddies! :>

RE: Mandragoras? - lady2beetle - 08-29-2013

Totally off topic, but...

Every time I see these little guys I hear them in my head saying their name. And I think I remember it because when I first heard it, I was surprised by the pronunciation: "manDRAGora!"

My problem is... I cannot FOR THE LIFE of me, remember what FF game had them actually say their own name. Can anyone help me?

RE: Mandragoras? - ReforgedWoodenSword - 08-29-2013

The only other one I even remember them in is FFXII to be honest with you.
