Coeurl Questions - Sigyn Shieldbreaker - 09-11-2013

So these guys.

It just so happens that Siobhain really dislikes Chocobos for some reason. Probably because she feels like she's a little too high up for comfort.

I read that Coeurls used to be numerous in 1.0 but now they're endangered or extinct?

So, questions.

1. Does anyone know any details about what happened to the Coeurls?
2. Does anyone use a Coeurl as their IC mount?
3. Does anyone actually mention their mount ICly at all?
4. Are they cool to ride?

I think you have it the other way around. In 1.0, if I recall correctly, there was a single coeurl in the game. I would say they are much more numerous now than they were in 1.0.

People frequently mention their mounts ICly, and some just have them for fun. Really depends on your character, and if you want to come up with the story behind the mount or not.

I just wanted to make sure in the event I get the digital upgrade that if I were to use one (which I might because I -love- mounts) people weren't going to beat me up or come at me with pitchforks for using an endangered species for a mount.

Oh waifu! I didn't know you wanted a mount, I have this Floating Eye for you! Wait, you don't want to be high, so a voidsent, yes yes! Riding the mount of pure evil into battle!

But on a serious note, I think they were numerous enough to have as a mount. To get one as a mount, I believe they're semi-intelligent more so than other beasts, so I take the bonding would take a special strong willed individual.

Game limitations and such, remember 1.0 was more of an alpha experiment instead of an actual game.

 Very good. I don't want to make Siobhain too-too special but I would like her to eventually get a coeurl mount. I may periodically reference it. I did also read that they're extremely ferocious creatures but I'm sure she could take one.

Honey, tsk tsk, the saddle goes on it's back, not it's face. While that'd be one crazy ride, it isn't the most effective.

As for it is, there might be new mounts added of such. We have magitek mounts, I don't see why a bike can't be added. If they do, it'll probably be a diesel punk style one from FFVII.
Especially more so seeing as they're adding the Golden Saucer which -does- have the snowboarding mini-game.

We'll more than likely, if we get one, will get one as I said during the Golden Saucer time. I wonder if it'll include awkward dates too as a mini-game.

There are a lot of Coeurl pups in game in the...um East Shroud I think?

I'm planning on having my miqo'te having raised her coeurl from a little orphaned pup and using it as an in-game mount. Smile

It's definitely feasible. If anything, it's much more likely than anyone attempting to say that they have some purloined Magitek armor from the Garlean Empire to ride around..

I'm hoping they don't go too steam punk-ish for Eorzea.  Every fantasy MMO lately seems to want to put a ton of steampunk or technology or what have you in there. I've grown a bit tired of Final Fantasy abandoning magic and swords for magic swords and FULLY AUTOMATIC MACHINE GUNS!!!!  Cloud gets a pass since the entire party could stand behind the shield wall Buster Sword. Tongue

I did get a laugh in Ul'dah when a lalafell duo conversation was:
Lalafell 1: I have an idea for a new device. It's a cart on two wheels that you pedal.
Lalafell 2: Why wouldn't you just ride a chocobo?


WoW has made me favor having a smaller collection of mounts with the main one (Chocobo for ARR) being much more easy to get so it remains the most commonly seen mount of choice rather than 250 different beasts of varying size and type carrying people around everywhere.

I have the coeurl mount from the 1.0 CE perks I got, but I don't really care for the animation of them from seeing others ride them.  I'm waiting for my Chocobo myself! ^_^

Though I want to stay on foot mostly.  It's just a bad idea to take your trusty mount out into the dangerous depths of the wilderness, tie him to a tree, and go wander into a cave and expect nothing to accept your offer of a free dinner.
