Security of the Account - erosskye - 09-21-2013

I would like to report that a roleplaying friend of mine has just lost their account to goldsellers.  I assume they will get it back after many painful attempts at SE's tech support.  But just a heads - up that the goldsellers are hacking private accounts.  Make sure if you have a smart phone to get your SE one time use password working!

You can also order the key fob if you don't have a smart phone.  It costs about $10.

Another good thing to do is to make sure that your game password and your email password are different.  And that both passwords are long and complicated.  I generally use a system of letters, symbols, letters, symbols, letters, numbers.  Should be as random as possible.

Squeenix doesn't allow the use of a lot of the symbols, sadly. It bothers the hell out of me, because I prefer to use the triple mix in a varied pattern...and I can't with Squeenix. I have a FoB now, and my fiancé has the phone app...but I still feel uncomfortable with their lack of variables.

This might ease your mind.

Hah I was literally just about to post that. It's very good advice.

Ha!  That's actually what I was meaning when I said letters, symbols, etc.  I chain words together with symbols and numbers.

Given that you can just copy and paste your password into the launcher, I suggest using a separate program to store your passwords in an encrypted manner. You can then use whatever hideously long password you want for FFXIV without issue! It'll be as safe as can be, even if you're not able to use the symbols you normally would.
