Hello All - Kheni'to - 11-03-2013 Introduction I'm a bit overwhelmed right now considering I'm a double whammy newbie. Not only am I new to FF14, but I am new to RPing as well. However, I am not a newbie to MMOs or RPGs. That latest game before this one being Guild Wars 2. I've known of the concept of RPing from when I played my first MMO, City of Heroes, years ago. I've played in a silly RPish way in GW2 with a friend of mine, but I wouldn't call it actual RPing. How I found this Forum I am a research kind of guy. Long story, short. Without any friends of mine to play this game with, I started a search for a Free Company. I found a listing on a random site. The FC was an RP FC but it sounded fun, and it re-established my interest in RP. I contacted the leader via e-mail, I was referred to the Role Playing Handbook post by Eva on this forum. I read it entirely three times. I started a new character in Balmung. Here I am. My Preparation I spent nearly 4 days playing the game, researching lore, writing two RP essays (I love writing) and watching other players RP (like some kind of creepy stalker). One three-page essay I wrote regarding my character's history, story and personality. The other essay is 6 pages and it is a summary of important lore, FF14 historical events, RP essentials (such as the meaning of OOC and IC), emote information and culture information. Did I go nuts? I think so. Anyways, it is good to meet everyone. I already have another thread I want to start regarding some questions I have. For now, I'll leave this thread at "hello all". RE: Hello All - Tiergan - 11-03-2013 Wow, I have to say that I'm really impressed by how far you went to prepare for all of this! Though don't be too nervous. I like to think most RPers will be very patient once you let them know this is your first time trying to RP in an MMO and will gently help you out if you make any slip ups. :) Plus, if you're the type that sort of enjoys writing at all, you'll probably take to RPing very naturally. Welcome aboard! RE: Hello All - Maqali Qulaan - 11-03-2013 Hello new person and welcome! It's always good to have new friends about. Don't worry about a lack of RP experience- everyone has to start somewhere, and the more you practice the more comfortable you'll feel! Feel free to say hi any time you'd like- Janna could use more Keepers that she doesn't actively hate And once again, welcome to the RPC and to Eorzea! RE: Hello All - Jael'li - 11-03-2013 Hey there and welcome to the club! It doesn't matter how terrible of an Roleplayer you think you may be since you actually sat down and did your research! An admirable trait I wish people would do more when jumping into a game and planning to RP. RE: Hello All - Aedan - 11-03-2013 Welcome! It's nice to see you did some research, I'll be honest I was the exact same. If you see me around, don't be shy, just walk up and say hi. I'm pretty much always in the mood to RP. RE: Hello All - Olofantur - 11-03-2013 Greetings and Welcome to the RPC Kheni'to, As others have stated your preparation is admirable, If you'd like to compare notes of your own "RP Essentials" Eva did a wonderful write up on Roleplaying posted here: (you can also find it linked on the Home page) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Apart from that, GW2 seems to be a place a few people are making the jump from and that I hope you transition as smoothly to FFXIVs' style of play, though by your time in game I would assume it went fairly well. Feel free to avail yourself of the sites resources, such as the player filled and edited wiki, a host of character information as well as some expanded lore. There is the Lantern, the local IC publication. The Calendar hosts a good chuck of the public events you might find occurring (each one should be tagged with the server/date/time/requirements of entry). And lastly the Linkshell hall, a great resource to locate/identify/communicate with the groups you might find out in Eorzea. Even if you have no intention of joining one I find it still good to know who I might run into and how I might interact with them. I took a gander at your other thread so it looks like you're already confident in putting questions out there, hope to see you out in Eorzea! RE: Hello All - Navisse - 11-03-2013 Welcome to the addiction! RE: Hello All - Kheni'to - 11-03-2013 Thank you for the welcome everyone. I didn't know I'd be welcomed by so many so fast Olofantur, I appreciate you telling me about all the site's resources. There is a lot of that I want to look through. I'm pretty sure my RP essentials in my own records are mostly taken from Eva's post. She did a great job on that Handbook post. It must have taken her awhile. RE: Hello All - Swashbuckler - 11-04-2013 Welcome welcome! You came from City of Heroes too? Were you perhaps on the Virtue server, too? What was your global? I'm very glad I found this place and everyone seems so nice thus far. Though, I need to be a little more proactive in my RP. I'm always up for random RP. I'm still lurking a bit trying to get my feet wet but I'm slowly starting to approach people for RP myself. Good to have you with us! RE: Hello All - Kheni'to - 11-04-2013 My global? Oh boy it was so long ago. I know that my global name was Electronn, but I don't remember all the other stuff attached to that. I played mostly on the Freedom server, that was my first server, but I did have a few characters on the Virute server. I think Virtue was the unofficial RP sever in that game. I don't remember which characters I had on most of the servers. |
