XCOM fans unite! - U'roh Tia - 11-13-2013

So I was wondering is anyone here XCOM fans? I mean it dosen't have to be Enemy Unknown or Within exclusively I'm talking back in the day old DOS XCOMs, heck even Classified counts here!

Yup I'm one of them.  I have UFO, TFTD, Apocalypse, Interceptor and Enemy Unknown/Within.  The original is still the best imo.

Edit: Personally I'm waiting for X Rebirth to come out on the 15th. I just hope it won't be a disappointment, the previous ones were awesome.

I will admit I was brought into the fan fold with EU, It slipped under my radar as I never really like games like this but after trying the demo I came see just how awesome the games were and bought it day one. Been meaning to play through the older ones one day. Just to see how broke Chrysalids were!

if you can live with the outdated graphics you will find that the original is far more fun and engaging.  There is a LOT more to do, from actively hunting/searching for UFOs to manufacturing weapons, armor, items, vehicles, aircraft and selling them for profit.  On top of that if I remember correctly you can have up to 16+ units on a map.  Did I mention you can have multiple bases too? Tongue

EDIT: If you do play the original here is a tip. Research Motion Scanners first and manufacture them to sell. They give the biggest profit margin until you can manufacture laser cannons and then fusion ball launchers.

Enemy Within is soooo awesome... with the genetic alterations and the cyborg stuff... best XCOM so far... they really took an awesome game and made it even better. More devs should do that... YES bioware <_<

I actually almost spent my money on the Enemy Within release instead of this game. Glad I didn't, but I'm most definitely picking that one up soon. I got Enemy Unknown on PC and it was fantastic. I'm a huge Civilization nerd, so I've got Firaxis' back in anything they do, but they did a great job with redesigning the franchise. Can't wait to see how it progresses.

The old X-COMs still hold a very dear place in my heart. One of those old classics that still brings a little nostalgia with it.

I.. am struggling to enjoy X Rebirth. Alot of things feel either forced or just slapped on. There is, however, an active modding community for it, and I have found a few to fix the problems I had with the UI/Stations.

For X-Com, I have only Enemy Unknown, but I did have a great amount of fun with it, and can't wait to get into it a little bit more.

Are the older games good? Are they even similar aside from the genre? I was told to try a few older series of games, and they ended up being very, very different, 'is all.

I think Terror From The Deep gave me PTSD. Those cruise ships... the horror...

Night terrors aside, I'm really enjoying EU/EW. The MEC troopers alone are worth the price of admission. So far there has been little more satisfying than punching Crysallids through trucks.
