Greetings Balmung! - Roen - 11-13-2013

Okay, usually when I join a forum/community, I've had the habit of lurking for the longest time, reading everything I can possibly read so that when I do jump in I sound like I know what I am talking about.  Then I've lurked for so long, that I talk myself from getting actively involved.  I know, it's pretty silly.

So today is the day I break that trend, because while I've been drinking up the lore wherever I can find it, I don't think I will ever know enough where I will comfortable in this new world that I have just discovered. And I am now impatient to get into the fun of roleplaying with all the posts I'm reading here.

Greetings fellow roleplayers!

I am new to Balmung and very new to Final Fantasy.  I recently purchased the game because after a year of being away from the world of MMORPG, I grew restless and wanted to try a new experience.  And while I never played the original incarnation of FFXIV, I've always been a fan of Final Fantasy since the days of Cloud and Aeris! And then I found this forum, and I was hooked!

I played World of Warcraft for seven years, so I am no stranger to the world of MMORPG.  But in my years of playing and raiding on WoW, I've never found a community to roleplay with, despite the fact that I was on a roleplay server.

Now that I am returning to try a new MMORPG, I am hoping to start on a better footing by rolling a character on a server that seems to have an active and friendly roleplaying community.  And I am breaking my usual behavior of lurking for the longest time, and just jumping in with both feet!

My character level is still pretty low, I am eager to get my first chocobo this weekend. But I will still partake in any roleplaying opportunities that may come my way, if you will have a wee gladiator around.

And despite my best efforts, after reading pages after pages of lore, I still don't think I am really well versed in the Final Fantasy lore.  Maybe I am just trying to remember too much all at once.  So if I do encounter you in character and I mess up a few details, please feel free to correct me!  My character, Roen, has reasons to get things mixed up anyways. But she does not mean to.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing some of you around in game! Smile

Hey there, welcome to the server! It's good to have you here! If you're looking for an FC, Harbingers of the Dawn is a good-aligned, med-heavy RP FC dedicated to protecting and aiding the citizens of Eorzea. We also have an IC LS. We'd be happy to have you! You can learn more about us here or on our site. Please contact me if you're interested! Also, I'm happy to RP anytime so feel free to approach me if you see me around!

Greetings and welcome to the RPC Brynn

I'm a lurker at heart as well, so I understand the desire to fully grasp the basis or the world your entering before stepping foot in it. Partly to ensure fidelity, and also because I hate making an ass of myself/am easily embarrassed when I think i've messed up. Or maybe thats just me. anyways!

Faye makes an excellent recommendation with the Harbingers of Dawn, while I don't know many of their members, the ones i've met are a pleasant sort. So i'll add a few of my own suggestions, they're contextual depending on what you're looking for and your obligations, but I think they'll help set you on your way. As a note, an ingame tell to one of the Pearl holders, or a post on the given linkshell entry is usually enough to get you an invite.

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 Is the "Intermission" Linkshell, set up as a sort of OOC hub for roleplayers to meet, to chat and find out who is where with what and why. Large and on their third iteration, a good place to dip your toes.

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5335 Is smaller, but just as focused on helping people find others who are looking for roleplay in a given area, or with a certain focus.

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3026 Is another OOC group, how ever focused on EU time zones (since I couldn't find yours I thought i'd throw it in, maybe you keep their hours.)

You might know about some of the following links, but just incase...
http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome that welcome post outlines a few of the resources here at the RPC, the lantern, calendar, all that fun stuff.

http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 Is a RP handbook made by Eva, very informative and sectioned so that you can read over what you might feel you want to improve on. It covers fairly common territory, but does it well and with detail.

As far as Lore itself is concerned. I pull from a variety of sources, treating the game as "primary" I also use the wiki on this site as well as the following sources. (Caution, some of their information is from 1.0, make sure to check the post date.)

Ah well, rambling aside, the RPC is a pretty open group, with many conversations, no doubt you may encounter a topic you were thinking of in the forums, and if not you can always make your own!

Hope to see you around in Eorzea before too long, make sure to stop by and say hello if you're in Ul'dah!

RE: Greetings Balmung! - Roen - 11-14-2013

Thank you for a warm welcome, Faye!

Before I broke my lurking status, I did peruse the linkshell forums for Balmung, and decided to apply to a Free Company that seemed to fit my character's current situation the best.

But really, I would like to meet all the FCs and roleplayers in Balmung, more I read this forum!  So many interesting and friendly folks around here.  Smile  So hopefully, we will cross paths too soon, Faye.  I certainly would like to meet you in character.

And thank you for all the info, Olofantur! I really do appreicate more resourses to draw from, and a helpful pointing finger to lead me to the right places. I had already read through some of those sites already, looking through the forums, but there is a lot to read!  And just last night, another very helpful roleplayer (thanks Denn!) pointed me to the gamerscape.com.  So I will be drinking that in today, in hopes of etching out more details to my character and sharpening my roleplay!
