Hullo! Newbie with a few questions! - Amelyn - 12-17-2013 Hello there, everyone! Name's Pikoko and I'm currently in the process of installing FFXIV! I figured I'd chirp up here before I got started in game just to introduce myself to the RP community and also ask a few questions! Here we go! --MMORPG background I've played quite a few MMORPGs in my past, the first one being Final Fantasy XI. I stuck around it for about... five years I think? After that I ended up falling into World of Warcraft where I played for a few years, too. Then I dabbled a little in Rift, Aion and SWTOR. I only hit cap in XI, WoW and SWTOR though! I'm a bit of a lazy leveler... --RP experience I started RPing on forums when I began playing XI back in my early teenage years! I honestly had no idea RP even existed inside MMOs at the time so my MMO RP experience didn't begin until World of Warcraft where I joined a RPPvP server without realising exactly what it was. Oops. Since then I've been RPing in every MMO I play. It really adds to the game experience for me now. I find I can't really stick to a MMO if I don't have RP there! ^^' --Character ideas/info My character idea is still very basic at the minute. All I know is I'm thinking of a little Lalafell lady. I don't really have a backstory for her yet, or a personality. I'm a bit torn on the route to go with her. I've researched the city states and classes/jobs, and I'm leaning towards her being either a Gladiator or a Pugilist. There's just too many ideas running through my head to decide! --How did you learn about the coalition? I found you guys through a google search if I'm honest! My friend played XIV when it was first released and mentioned a RP community in passing so I decided to hunt you down. (It wasn't that hard!) --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? I'm aiming to be somewhere between medium and heavy. I don't do EVERYTHING IC, and I'm looking for a guild with OOC chat because I like to joke around and make friends in guild chat, but I still like to RP quite a lot. I also love RPing outdoors and adventuring and all that sort of stuff IC rather than sitting in a tavern gossiping. Though I also enjoy that from time to time, too! If there are any guilds out there that do anything similar, I'd love to get in touch! ^^ -Anything from real life you'€™re comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) The big thing here I guess is that I'm currently living and working in China, so my timezone is very different to the majority of people here I guess. I'm hoping that isn't too much of an issue, though! And now! For a few questions, if anyone doesn't mind answering them! 1: As said, I love adventuring and being out in the wilds for RP. I find it so much more interesting than tavern RP day after day, especially spontaneous mini plot-lines that can happen. 2: My timezone is very different to most people's I presume. If not, then that's amazing! If anyone knows of a RP guild that is based around (or at least has) several people playing at odd timezones that would match my own, then that would also be wonderful! 3: A more game mechanic question. In XI the race you chose gave you different stats. Is it the same in XIV? Am I going to be a big issue if I roll a Lalafell Paladin and try to tank, for example? ^^' I'm sure I'll have more when I get into the game, but that's all I have for now! Glad to be here and I'm looking forward to meeting you all! RE: Hullo! Newbie with a few questions! - Faye - 12-17-2013 Hey there, welcome to the server! If you're looking for an FC, Harbingers of the Dawn is a good-aligned, med-heavy RP FC dedicated to protecting and aiding the citizens of Eorzea. We also have an IC LS. We do social RP, as well as field RP and dungeon RP, and plot-driven RP. We'd be happy to have you! You can learn more about us here or on our site. Please contact me if you're interested! Also, I'm happy to RP anytime so feel free to approach me if you see me around! I don't think the timezone will be a huge issue. There are, of course, times when the server is more active than others, but there are usually plenty of people online at any time of the day. Also, playing a lalafell paladin won't be a problem! Any race can do well as any class/job. RE: Hullo! Newbie with a few questions! - LandStander - 12-17-2013 Heya . Welcome! I think there is an EU based FC named Europa that might be the closest thing to your time zone, and no. There are no racial stats here. Do not even worry about the birthday thing because they took away elemental attacks so ice doesn't really hit you with ice..just with hp damage ; ;. RE: Hullo! Newbie with a few questions! - Rinh Hallani - 12-17-2013 (12-17-2013, 04:54 AM)LandStander Wrote: I think there is an EU based FC named Europa that might be the closest thing to your time zone Europa's actually a linkshell but if you want an FC, one of our officers in The Travellers Guild lives in Japan so at least one of our events each week are at hours more friendly to your timezone. We also have quite a few players who are on during your evening, both in Europa and TTG. RE: Hullo! Newbie with a few questions! - Knight Kat - 12-17-2013 Welcome to the site! Quote:And now! For a few questions, if anyone doesn't mind answering them! Answer to 1: Me too! I am big on exploring and even make a journal about it. I run into a lot of RPers in the wilds, but not as many as can be found in the taverns. Maybe I'll see you around out there! Answer to 2: This has already been answered I am on at odd times sometimes as well. Even at very late hours, RP still happens. Answer to 3: The different races do have slightly different starting stats. However, any race can do any and all of the professions, and be good at them. Maybe at level 1 a Lalafell Gladiator might have a slight disadvantage over a Roegadyn Gladiator, but once you start leveling, the starting stats will become virtually meaningless. RE: Hullo! Newbie with a few questions! - JTeacher - 12-17-2013 Hi there, As mentioned above the EU groups may get active near your late nights. I am on from around 10pm to 3 am Tokyo time, earlier on the weekends if I'm saving money at home. Look to add U'tara Taki if you have trouble finding some people or rp around then. RE: Hullo! Newbie with a few questions! - Olofantur - 12-17-2013 Allo allo Pikoko! welcome to the RPC as many have said, It looks like they've already addressed your questions. Rinhs suggestions of Europa and the Euro-centric FC's should help with finding people who are primarily online during your times. It took me a long time to get my first 50 in FFXIV, though that was in the previous version, I can be a bit slow as well, though I enjoy my meandering pace, no matter what anyone else says. About helping form you character, it is in many ways I think and advantage to not have a really firm idea of what you want going into the game, theres a lot of lore provided by doing the quests and seeing to world, perhaps you'll stumble on something that will provide insight into the Lalafellan way of life and give you something to build on. Any who~ here are a few links, many I imagine you've seen before, that might be helpful. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/misc.php?page=welcome This welcome posts has links to and briefly talks about a lot of the key features at the RPC, as well as serving as a general welcome post to the community as a whole. You mentioned having some forum RP experience and some in WoW as well, but I think that this next link, an RP Handbook by Eva should still have some use to you. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1770 While I imagine many of the concepts are already familiar, Eva also touches on a few of the circumstances more particular to FFXIV itself. There is admittedly a lot to get through but I think it a good refresher. But perhaps you want to jump in and see some of the communities. I'll first echo Rinh in saying that Europa will likely have a fair number of people closer to your time than elsewhere, however! the following two groups are fairly sizable with a healthy mixture of night owls, early birds and day-timers. Perhaps just stopping in for a week or two and seeing how things work out might help? http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1902 "Intermission" Is an OOC linkshell that serves as a way for roleplayers to get to know each other outside of roleplay. Chatting about where people are, what they might be up to, the latest episode of some TV show, or even commenting on that handsome Roe fellow with the fancy hat. A great way (as the linkshell entry says.) to make friends. Or maybe you just want to smash some virtual skulls. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5045 "Balmungs Finest" is another Out of Character Linkshell, but this one is all about group content the Trials, Primals, and dungeons. If you're farming Stone Vigil, or just really want to drag other people through Aurum Vale then this linkshell should help find you people to fill out your group. Or perhaps you're more along my lines and just like to lurk and jump into parties that are looking for people instead of making one. Phew thats a bit of information to go through. All the other posts and my own included I hope show just how open the RPC is to people, comments, questions, concerns... there are lots of people here who like to talk, and sometimes even manage to stay on topic! Best of luck out in Eorzea, and safe journeys |
