Random RP locations? - Celsius - 01-15-2014

So, I'm more curious than anything else on this topic. Is there anywhere specific that people go when looking for random RP? I mean, I assume that bars are a good start, as are the Adventurer's Guilds, but what about other spots?

Now, I know we have a list of areas stickied but it lists areas for FC groups - what about just plain random RP?

I would say Adventurer's Guilds (especially the Quicksand) and some of the larger player run events like the Grindstone.

Fallgourd Float seems to get a handful of RPers wandering through it every now and again (not just the tavern there, but Fallgourd as a whole). I also find people now and again all over Gridania (the Botanist's Guild being a personal favorite of mine that I occasionally find others in). The Bismarck in Limsa Lominsa gets some activity now and then, too.

Other than that... I'm not sure. FFXIV encourages a lot of talk-n-walk RP, so the most random RP encounters I've had have actually been while I was on the go.

I can say that, for the record, I usually see RPers in the Ul'dah and Gridania Adventurer's Guilds a LOT.

Trying to think of all the spots I've stumbled into RP...

The Adventurers' Guilds in Ul'dah and Gridania are the most populous spots, though I've generally found the Quicksand is a little more popular. Haven't seen much RP elsewhere in Ul'dah, but in Gridania I've also stumbled into RP at Apkallu Falls. Limsa Lominsa RP seems to center more around the Bismarck than the Drowning Wench, for whatever reason- most likely due to aetheryte proximity. But I've also RPed and witnessed RP at the Wench- though it seemed a more popular location on Gilgamesh than it is on Balmung.

Outside of the cities, it's obviously a bit more sparse. I've had some luck at Camp Bronze Lake and Camp Drybone, for whatever reason. (Well, no, I think I can guess why Bronze Lake is a popular option, but it shouldn't deter non-ERPers!) I've bumped into RP at the village southeast of the Nanawa Mines in Central Thanalan and the Hermit's Hovel in Outer La Noscea as well. Typically, the best spots have an aetheryte but aren't a hub for FATE grinding, daily quests, or major plot content. I'd be hard-pressed to think of any RP at the Hawthorne Hut, Little Ala Mhigo, Revenant's Toll, Camp Dragonhead, Horizon, Quarrymill, or Costa Del Sol. Lower-level maps are more popular for a variety of reasons, so they're a good bet.

The thing about open world RPing is that it happens wildly and chaotically. There are some that RP around The Quicksand regularly and some that RP around Gridania too. There's no rhyme or reason to it and most of the time, there aren't groups of RPers camped out. However, if you keep your eye open, you can find it easy enough.

Camp Bronze Lake: Despite the seemingly popular opinion that it's the "Love Shack" of Balmung, there are events there and in the surrounding areas often enough to find RPers about.

Limsa Lominsa: The Wench, Bismarck and the lower docks are great spots often used to random RP meeting up.

The Quicksand and outside it: Another area frequently used for meetups and impromptu chats.

Fallgourd: As said, there are some FCs who use this area to RP frequently.

(I'm sure there are more of them, feel free to add to the list)

I'd suggest the various RP Linkshells, but I haven't seen a lot of use of them recently. I may be wrong, but that's more of a personal opinion. At any rate, the effective RPer isn't shy about RPing. If you see someone openly RPing, say hello or send them a tell. It's all about networking.

I've been leveling CUL a lot lately and I usually see someone sitting at the tables out by the Bismarck.

I can definitely also support the claim that there are more RPers there than at the Drowning Wrench.
