Twitch vs. YouTube - Steel Wolf - 02-11-2014

So I'm something of a nerdball.

...duh.

No, but seriously, I love "Let's Play" videos.  I love producing videos (having done production and mixing for anime fandubs for a number of months).  I would love to produce my own series of videos, it's just a question of what game and what content.

Right now, I have a couple of episodes of some videos running through blind playthroughs of the Investigation Missions in The Secret World, titled "Stumbling Through the Dark".  I'm also considering making a series of videos around EverQuest Next: Landmark, but that's neither here nor there.  Right now, I'm trying to determine the best place to host said videos--which ones are more interesting I'll gauge later.

YouTube has been my friend for a number of years.  I've used it through all the format changes and style adjustments and Google+'ing and even through the blanket answer of blocking ALL the things due to copyright whining.  There's an established userbase there.  People are familiar with the site.

But then I start hearing more and more about Twitch.  It's userbase is growing. It's a site specifically for these kinds of videos.  Also, no Google+ silliness or other combined idiocy.

Now I'm not familiar with Twitch, and really only just sorta perused the site a bit. I'm curious if anyone here has any thoughts on the best place to launch this idea...or if anyone would care about said idea at all, honestly.

Thanks for reading, friend. ^^

Twitch is much, much more livestream based than youtube. You're basically streaming live, which well can be fun. It can also make your Let's Play a little bad if you plan on lots of edits ala Cry or Pewdiepie (ok I admit it I watch them T_T)

I guess my first question is what your plan is with the LPs. A streamed setup or lots of edits?

Twitch is fun for speedrunning charity marathons as well as real time interaction with an audience if you plan for having that.

Well, the videos I've got planned are pretty heavily edited--if I did a live stream of my playing an Investigation Mission in TSW, it'd involve lots of silences, muttering and annoyed growling...which probably wouldn't be very entertaining.  XD

So, I suppose that rather answers my question right out of the box it seems.  Jeez, this thread seems a waste now...

...uh....how about that sports team?  ^.^;;;

Well I could be very wrong XD But in my experience and as far as I know Twitch isn't available for video uploads but for livestreaming.

Sports teams? I root for the Ul'dahn Drakes of course. /shot

Just to tag onto ExKages note, Twitch does have some in system editing [the clips you stream can be edited and reposted as highlights alongside the full video]

But uploading Video is a no-go from what i've seen. Not sure what you're using as recording software but OBS [Open Broadcast Software] is what I use for my live streaming and recording, its fairly light weight and while not has configurable as some, it suits my needs since I do any tweaking in review after.

For video hosting Youtube followed by back ups on Springboard is fairly common, A regular program of mine links his Springboard in the youtube additional info to provide optional viewing in case you're fighting a copy rights claim and the video is temporarily suspended.

Oh! And while I hope you never have to deal with it, here are a few snips of infor on fair use to back yourself up, i've had to fight a few claims because of that twelves cursed auto-flagger.

Hope to see what you put out there Cactuar
