List and trivia of inaccessible cities/regions (please chip in with your knowledge!) - Seriphyn - 02-25-2014

I will be editing this post as people chip in and I discover new tidbits personally. Here will be a list of various regions and cities mentioned in the lore but currently inaccessible. Have a preferred interest in looking beyond Ishgard and Ala Mhigo, considering the current lore focus they have. I will also write up questions to see if anyone knows more about it. I will drop the ?s when these details are confirmed. Without further ado!

EORZEA

Ishgard city-state/Coerthas region
The Holy See of Ishgard is a theocratic city-state found in Abalathia's Spine among the Coerthas highlands. Dominated by Elezen along with Midlander Hyur. Exhibits a Northern European aesthetic influence.

Ala Mhigo city-state/Gyr Abania region
Former monarchy, now occupied by the Garlean Empire. Any ideas as to the climate of Gyr Abania? What is the dominating architectural style of Ala Mhigo, do we think? Almost exclusively(?) dominated by Highlanders, with potentially Midlander and Hellsguard minorities?

Sharlayan city-state/Dravinia region
The sixth Eorzean city-state, the 'scholarly' capital occupying the far west of Aldenard. Sons of Saint Coinach originate from here. Students of Baldesion as well? What is the dominant race here? I see at least Midlanders and Hellsguard at Saint Coinach's Find. Located in the Dravinia region, home of the dragons.

Xelphatol region
Home region of the Ixal(?). North of the Black Shroud.

Paglth'an region
Region east of Thanalan. Volcanic, or is that just a dirty visual embellishment on the in-game map?

O'Ghomoro region
Northern region of Vylbrand, beyond La Noscea. What lay here?

The Cieldalaes
Island chain in the Rhotana south of Vylbrand and west of Thanalan. Three islands are known; Hope's Bourn, Locke's Lie, and Turtleback Island [source]. Spinach is native here, and is rich in iron [source]. People do live here, perhaps a well-to-do Ishgardian family at their winter home [source]

Theueari
Located in the Jade Sea south of Gyr Abania

Mazlava
Located in the Jade Sea south of Theueari

BEYOND EORZEA

Ilsabard continent
Home of Garlemald and completely occupied by the Garlean Empire. Is the middle of the Three Great Continents.

Othard continent
Partially occupied by the Garlean Empire? Remaining territories mentioned to have been able to fend off the Garleans somewhat? The Emperor first saw the might of the primals here; different primals, or the same as in Eorzea? Is the easternmost of the Three Great Continents.

Radz-at-Han city-state/Thavnair region
The "Near Eastern island nation" and "city-state". Radz-at-Han quenching oil and Thavnairian mist comes from here. Possibly South Asian influenced given the presence of 'lassi'.

Tidbits;
Quote:Mint Lassi
A cool and refreshing drink made from cultured milk. Popular in the Near Eastern city-state of Radz-at-Han for its ability to offset the blistering heat of the Thavnairian midday sun.

Thavnairian Mistletoe
A variety of parasitic plant that is commonly found growing on the stout acacia trees of Thavnair. The inhabitants of Thavnair's capital city of Radz-at-Han have a strange custom that states if two people meet underneath a sprig of mistletoe, they must each give the other one of their shoes.

Giantsgall
The Brugaire Consortium sources arms from Radz-at-Han. These arms are forged of a "peculiar stone" known as Giantsgall, which is only found on the island of Thavnair. [source]

Acacia trees can also be found in central Thanalan, indicating a similar climate.

Far East
Compulsory East Asian influenced region. "Far Easterlings" (as they are allegedly called) visited Eorzea for Heavensturn. Mostly Midlanders? There are no chocobos (horsebirds) in the Far East, only horses. Giantsgall was named for a Far Eastern legend of a hero who slew a giant on Thavnair. The giant's blood soaked the island and granted the stone its strength. [source]

Gosh, is there a tidier way to format this?
