Hello, introductions are in order, and a few questions to be asked. - X'vatt - 04-30-2014

Hello, on the internet I go by Eilik, I am a twenty-three year old male who is an avid roleplayer not just in the MMO setting, but also multiple tabletops and me and my girlfriend have been looking around for a good MMO with a solid roleplaying community to satiate our thirst from our recent boredom of WoW.

We have yet to actually get FFXIV: ARR, however we are interested in it. Not just for gameplay reasons, but for the roleplaying ones as well. I have looked around the forums and read the activity, and I like it, but there's still a few questions to ask.

For example, I understand there are two unofficial roleplaying servers. I'm more of the type to do everything in the game, while my counterpart is a heavy roleplayer. If anyone knows, out of Balmung or Gilgamesh, which one seems to be the best in terms of volume of roleplayers? It doesn't matter as much, but for ease of finding roleplaying, it would be great. I have played multiple other games before, on servers designated as the 'Roleplaying' servers and even at peak times would find only one or two, at times there'd be days in which I could not find a single roleplayer.

Second off, I love my PvE and PvP as well, is it at the very least, decent? I know a lot of enjoyment can only be experienced by oneself, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Also, lastly, how easy is it in the community to find, say, random roleplay? In the world, in the cities, whatever. I'm talking about people who are open to, or even walk up to people who look like they may be in character at any given time.

I realize that maybe the PvE and PvP question was out of place, and coul have been asked in official forums or on other gamer websites, but in my past experience the roleplaying community has always been the friendliest. It's why even when I plan on not doing much RP I roll on a RP server.

Thank you for reading and responding if you have, we're debating on getting this game as we both think it looks really interesting. It would really help if we could get opinions on the matter. (Even if they are a little biased, we don't mind.))Big Grin

I can't speak to the amount of roleplay on Gilgamesh, but it's oozing out of the crevices of Balmung (totally gross image). The reason who have two to begin with is because some people who were starting 2.0 FFXIV fresh wanted a completely fresh group to start with (not to mention a fresh economy and other non-rp things like that). On the flip side, Balmung (originally Besaid) has been the unofficial RP server for this community since the original iteration of the game. I'd like to think both servers are thriving, though :). As far as sheer volume of RPers, just about any poll or listing of linkshells or members from *this* site is likely to indicate Balmung has more Rping players. This isn't to say Gilgamesh lacks at all in available, quality rp. (This has been a trixy topic in the past, so let's not travel too far down this road, ok err'body : P?) There are also several linkshells (chat channels) on both servers (I believe? Right, you have one, Gilga'?) that people can join just to keep an ear to the ground for rp. Additionally, Square Enix has given us a fancy little button we can click on our free company (guild) information pages to say "this guild does that RP thing!" AND a lot of people put "RPer" in their search comment to make it easier to tell who is and isn't an RPer.

Forgive my boldness, but I'm going to go ahead and say of the more recent MMOs floating around, FFXIV has the most staying power in terms of PvE. One of my biggest problems with trying to make time to RP in the game right now is that I just kind of want to play the game itself : P. I've heard many others agree with the sentiment. I've also unfortunately heard that the PvP needs a lot of work, but I haven't tried it.

All that said, welcome to both the site and hopefully~ the game! If you haven't looked through them already, you may want to check out some of the threads in the welcome section :)

Hello Eilik! I feel Xenedra covered most of it, so I'll try not to repeat too much.

Balmung does have a large RP community, and it is not hard to find random RP. Some places in game are easier to find it in than others, but you won't have to look very hard.

As for PVE and PVP, PVE is thriving as much as it is on any other server. Many RPers are very active in end game content, so you should be able to do PVE to your hearts content. PVP isn't hard to find either. While it has flaws, you will be put into matches with people from other servers as well, so the PVP population on one server isn't much of an issue.

I hope that helps!

Thank you both very much. This answers quite a bit and is swaying my opinion even more than it already was on this game. I'm doing some lore research but maybe you will hear from us soon. I knew it was better to ask then to wonder until we got the game. xD Thanks again.

We're already planning out characters, getting excited to jump headfirst into a new MMO.

So! Good news, me and the girlfriend just purchased the game today and so we will attempt to get on within a few days.  We're excited to try out this game, and hopefully be a part of this RP community. ^.^ Just keeping anyone informed who would like to be friendly to a few newbies.
