Looking for a companion / mentor [Balmung / Preferably EU] - Cylle - 05-08-2014

Hi there!

I'll start off with a little introduction.

I recently picked up FFXIV and quickly fell in love with it.
Now as someone with a bit of history in roleplaying before, I had this in the back of my mind, but steered away from RP until I was certain this was the game for me.
Clearly now I've reached that point!

However, as much as I enjoy leveling by myself and just experiencing the world, I am a complete greenhorn when it comes to Final Fantasy, let alone any of the lore involved!

It might be a bit of a shot in the dark, but here goes:

What I'm looking for is someone (and a character!) that could both serve as a companion and mentor for me (and my character!) to guide through the world a bit.
You and your character of course won't need to be there for every single mob I kill, just the occasional RP once or twice a week would be fine!
Furthermore I'm of course looking for some more guidance OOC, I'm still a very fresh player and a very new roleplayer in this world, although not new to roleplay itself.
Currently my character is only level 16, but I'll assure you I do intend to play this for the long run, I've set my mind to this.

As it stands, my character is more personality than someone with a big background.
I don't know much lore wise so I've tried to steer clear of this as much as I can.

For now, Cylle is just a very animated, joyful, big-eyed girl who has not seen much of the world yet.
No outstanding heritage, a blacksmith's daughter with a bit too much of a tomboyish streak than is good for her.

Some bullet points / what I'm looking for.

- Most importantly someone that can play/roleplay around European times.
Although if I can't find one. I usually am up -very- late during the weekends, so in that case I'm looking for someone available during those times.

- Someone with a fair bit of knowledge of the world ICly and OOCly

- An older character, someone for Cylle to look up to.

- Someone with a bit of patience. As I have the feeling I'll probably ask some things that will be very obvious for an experienced person.

- I'm not necessarily looking for a linkshell or any permanent group attachment right away, if friends are made along the way that's perfectly fine with me but as I'm just starting off I don't want to throw myself all the way into the deep end right away and overwhelm myself with all sorts of stuff.

I hope I'll be able to find someone, as from what I've seen and heard has got me very anxious to get started right away!
Just leave a reply in this thread or message me when I'm online on Cylle Forsythe!
Thanks!

First off, welcome to the RPC and Balmung! Laugh

I would be happy to RP with you and help you out OOC. I may not live in the EU, but my semester just ended and I have an abundance of free time, so I can log in whenever.
As for my character, he's 38 and a veteran warrior, so he has the old part going for him. Smile

Anyway, regardless of who you choose, feel free to shoot me a message anytime! I'm almost always down to RP.

RE: Looking for a companion / mentor [Balmung / Preferably EU] - Merri - 05-08-2014

Good to have you!

I'll echo Ragnar's sentiments in that I'm not EU either, though I'm generally up fairly late. I do have a lot of commitments in-game, but I do my best to make time for people if they poke me about it.

Merri isn't exactly old, but he's definitely older than most. Technically he should be 34, but being one of the time-skipped adventurers that was at Carteneau, he's physically 29. So he's old, but not old. I won't ramble on too much about his character here, as I like to try and allow most things to be discovered ICly or at least discussed in private, but he's "experienced". Whether it's combat, or adventuring, or whatever~

In line with Ragnar as well, whoever you go with, I'm always down for meeting new people and making connections, even if it's just an occasional thing. I'm also totally open to building backstory with people, as Merri's background makes it incredibly easy, given all the traveling he did. Merri does have a strong love for introducing people to the world of adventuring, at the very least, so he'd be totally on board with some one who's enthusiastic about it.

And as far as lore goes, I absolutely don't mean to toot my own horn, but I'm probably one of a small handful of people on the RPC that have near an encyclopedic knowledge on the lore of XIV. Back during 1.0, studying lore was one of my favorite things to do. (Given for a time, there wasn't much else to do, and I really enjoyed what lore there was.) I used to be active on the official forum's lore section as well, though it's been awhile since I've posted there. If you dig around, you'll find some of my old threads here on the RPC that are loaded with information. Some if it being stuff you can't find anymore, as the references were removed at the end of 1.0. Regardless of whether or not anything happens ICly, you are always more than welcome to shoot me a PM here on the forums with any questions, and I'll answer them to the best of my ability. (And that goes for anyone reading this!)

Suffice it to say, I've soaked up most everything of significant note (and even the little things) that ARR has pushed out so far. I haven't done one in awhile, but I started to do posts on the FFXIV subreddit where I let people ask any questions they have about the lore of the game, and either provide a concrete answer or as close to one as I can with that lore we do have confirmed. I'm thinking about doing one this very weekend, now, actually.

You can find the first one here~

Hi Cylle! Welcome to XIV and the RPC!

I don't really get to RP as much as I'd like to - my life has been increasingly crazy busy lately. BUT, if you have any lore questions or even questions about classes or game mechanics, feel free to ask! I'm another one of those lore buffs Merri was mentioning. If I don't know the answer to your question, I will hunt the answer down in game. So feel free to send me a PM here any time.

I've posted this list a few places, but if you're looking for some lore sources outside of the game, these are a few of my favorite places to go.

Lore Hot-spots:
-Official Lore Forum
-Race Heights
-Azurymber's Lore Guide
-An Eorzean Timeline
-FFXIV Maps
-The Grand Companies of Eorzea
-Eorzean Newspaper Articles
-The Autumn War
-The Lore Train
-1.0 Lominsan Story Arc Discussion
-1.0 Ul'dahn Story Arc Discussion
-1.0 Gridanian Story Arc Discussion
-Gamer Escape Interviews Fernehalwes
-Time Measurement in Eorzea
-Eorzean Units of Measurement

Hope this helps! ^^

Hey, I'm in the UK and I'm also in need of RP that happens during the evening... Since all my friends seem to want to RP at 1am despite all of us being from the UK....

But I'd be happy to RP with you whenever you are up for it! I RP two very different characters so I'm sure we can find out which one would fit better, though neither of them are exactly older characters... the highest is only 22! But I would be happy to RP with you either way, and help with ooc stuff as well.

RE: Looking for a companion / mentor [Balmung / Preferably EU] - Avalt Laguz - 05-09-2014

Welcome! I'm also in the UK Smile

I don't get to RP as much as I would like, and three of my characters have kind of fallen into the teacher role!

My main is Avalt, and he's twenty three (kind of) but very wise, but if I'm not on him, look for either Tara Wilde or Gwen Caladhiel Smile They're both set in their late twenties!

RE: Looking for a companion / mentor [Balmung / Preferably EU] - Cylle - 05-09-2014

Goodness! I did not expect this much of a warm welcome!

I'm bouncing in my chair just reading all the messages!
I'll definitely try to pop along with most of you at some point! I"ll be sure to add them all!

Also much thanks for the list of links! But I guess as Cylle, I am a bit of a scatterbrain as well and reading tons of things like that just tends to confuse me more and becomes a bit overwhelming, it's why I prefer to simply ask people as I get a more specific, one to one response to things I need to know.
(On top of that I tend to feel it helps that -not- knowing something is great for a character that's also not supposed to know it yet!).
Hence why I thought it would be a great idea to learn as I go!

Either way, I really appreciate the great responses and I'll try to contact you all ingame as soon as possible! Or the other way around maybe!

RE: Looking for a companion / mentor [Balmung / Preferably EU] - Avalt Laguz - 05-09-2014

I'd be more than happy to have a session this evening! I'll be home from work at around 8.30pm GMT.

I'm exactly the same! I didn't know much about any of the lore when I started, so my first character was pretty clueless about most of the customs and such of the world outside the village she grew up in! Makes learning much more fun!

RE: Looking for a companion / mentor [Balmung / Preferably EU] - Cylle - 05-09-2014

I'm a bit swamped this week but I will have a lot of free time starting next week so I'll get around to contacting everyone as soon as I can!
