RP Question - Housing Districts - Lizzo - 05-16-2014 Having my FC house (Wulver's Den) set up in the Lavender Beds, a thought came to me after rereading my FC's thread. 'Do RPers go along with the houses being outside the cities in a kind of suburbs? Are they their own little town? Maybe they're just another part of the cities, the more residential areas by way of minor streets?' What do you guys think, or accept when you Roleplay in these areas? RE: RP Question - Housing Districts - Blue - 05-16-2014 Personally I just RP them being were they are, pretending each ward to be a different area of it. I usually try to stick to what lore gives us, though I think some things such as housing wards being strictly reserved to adventurers are generally disregarded by most for the sake of the community (since clearly not all roleplayers RP to be adventurers, but do RP having an FC house). This is just my 2 gil, though. RE: RP Question - Housing Districts - Naunet - 05-16-2014 The lore surrounding the housing districts is troubling, because the NPCs say they're basically there only for adventurers, which... would exclude many RPers from ever considering using them. I kinda just ignore that part, because it's silly. I'll also at times pretend the house is somewhere it isn't. For example, I've used Unity's FC house as a stage for a cafe-type place set in Ul'dah. RE: RP Question - Housing Districts - Miah Polaali - 05-16-2014 My FC is a Keeper Clan (Morbolvine Clan) and not adventurers. But, I still RP as us being where we are in game. We just simply ignore the whole reserved for adventurers thing. By the way, we are also in Lavender Beds, Ward 4. RE: RP Question - Housing Districts - FreelanceWizard - 05-16-2014 In terms of location, I go with what the game specifies; the residential wards are outside of each city, but accessible by a variety of means. I actually do accept that someone who owns a house needs to be an adventurer with a connection to a Free Company; while not everyone who lives there has to fit that requirement, someone somewhere on the house's paperwork needed to sign off as an adventurer affiliated with a Free Company. I suspect that's a minority opinion, but on the other hand, it hardly ever comes up in RP. The last time it did, it was an offhand comment by L'yhta that the Tower's cottage is a fairly safe spot, since trying to commit a crime in Mist would be akin to drawing a sword on someone in the middle of the Seventh Heaven (i.e., highly unwise given the concentration of highly skilled adventurers who like their stuff). Personally, I've yet to have RP discussing the finer points of city-state housing permitting statutes RE: RP Question - Housing Districts - Ildur - 05-16-2014 Squeenix stinks at making their lore friendly to roleplayers. Which is pretty weird considering all the other neat little tools like emotes, poses, facial expressions and sitting on certain surfaces in sensible ways. Anyway. I think it's a small enough detail as to not worry anyone if you decide to ignore the lore about adventurers being the only ones allowed to buy properties in those places. Handwave it by pretending that your character made some legal juggling or got some special permission, if anyone asks. RE: RP Question - Housing Districts - allgivenover - 05-16-2014 I think they'd have to be attempting to make RP-friendly lore to stink at it, but honestly it's clearly just not anything they're remotely concerned about. We already operate with so many workarounds to get role play working that the housing thing just seems so small in comparison. Really we all kind of deserve some recognition for it. |
