Material/Makeup Question - Coatleque - 07-10-2014 So I'm using the new "Carnage Sword" as my weapon glamour, because the color matches the Valor set so well. My only problem is... how do I describe what this thing is made out of? The hilt, grip, and pommel are easy, but the blade itself looks like either some kind of frosted glass or crystal. Going by the items crafting materials makes no sense, because it's a bronze sword with... aldgoat leather added to it. I had thought about just calling it some kind of blue steel, but that feels like a cop-out. Anyone have a better idea? RE: Material/Makeup Question - Warren Castille - 07-10-2014 When in doubt, pick a metal and aetherially reinforce it. There's plenty of pink gear in dungeons to lend it a mote of credibility, so there's no reason a steel sword couldn't just be laced with aether to toughen the blade, keen the edge, etc etc etc. RE: Material/Makeup Question - Aya - 07-10-2014 *blinks* What does this have to do with makeup? ^_~ RE: Material/Makeup Question - Coatleque - 07-10-2014 (07-10-2014, 03:30 PM)Aya Wrote: *blinks* What does this have to do with makeup? Because everyone knows when steel and leather combine in the presence of aether, it makes lipstick. Blue lipstick. *mwah* RE: Material/Makeup Question - Yangh - 07-10-2014 (07-10-2014, 02:55 PM)Coatleque Wrote: So I'm using the new "Carnage Sword" as my weapon glamour, because the color matches the Valor set so well. Â The hilt, grip, and pommel are easy, but the blade itself looks like either some kind of frosted glass or crystal.Luckily, metals are in fact crystals too (This blew my mind when I discovered this.) so i'd recommend, as Warren did, going with the "Aetherically enhanced aspect-less crystal" approach. Remember! In Eorzea, anything is possible if you wish for it hard enough... and crazy as it sounds, that is canon xD RE: Material/Makeup Question - Jancis - 07-10-2014 From a real life standpoint you can always add in different elements to cause a reaction for another color. Or it can be a coating over the true blade to not compromise the strength of the blade itself. Renn Faire Blacksmith demonstration for the win! RE: Material/Makeup Question - Fates Skein - 07-13-2014 I'd go with either aetherially-enhanced metal or possibly even that it's enchanted with materia. Â Could even say that it's a weird by-product of the forging process if you want to go with a neat magical explanation. Â Maybe it was forged using water sprite cores? |
