How to copy/make a backup of your macros. - Freyar - 10-03-2010

So if you're awesome like me, you play FFXIV on fourteen hundred different PCs, all of which need the macros mostly for job/equipment changes. Problem is, FFXIV doesn't save the macros on the server, despite being rather small anyway. So, here are some instructions on how to move, backup, and replace your saved macros.

1) Open
Windows XP:
..\My Documents\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV\user\((NUMBER))\

Windows Vista/7:
..\users\USERNAME\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV\user\((NUMBER))\

2) Find "mcr0", yes there is no extension for this file. Copy that to another machine in the corresponding folder.

3) Start FFXIV, and enjoy.

Good job, Frey. Thanks for sharing.

Sadly, this makes me actually pine for the days of XI. Back then they didn't save the macros server-side automatically, either. However there was a key combo you could input at the character selection which would actually let you save the highlighted character's in to a server-side slot, and then another key combo you used to load the same saved macros and settings to another copy.

There may very well be the same kind of keystroke available here, but I really don't know about it, this is the only way I can see how to move my macros. If someone more familiar with FFXI tries it and finds out how to save the macros server-side, by all means let me know.

I don't think it works in FFXIV or else they would of tell us already.

But anyways... in FFXI, you go to character selection screen, then press and hold:

To save (Backup)
ctrl + shift + alt + B

To load (Read)
ctrl + shift + alt + R

Or search for more info here:

And thanks for the hint Freyar. Now I understand that this My Games folder is very important as it holds all our configuration, saved characters looks, torrent updates, etc.
