Playing a Peddler - CrookedTarot - 08-14-2014 Just what it sounds like--for those who haven't seen him yet, Tarot (Crooked Tarot if you please'm) is a tomb raider that finds and sells artifacts and the like. The question here is less about how to play a peddler ICly but more about if selling things IC is something that could/would add to the experience. I don't know if folks have discussed this before--I did a quick scan and didn't see anything in the first handful of pages of the forum--so figured I'd ask. The idea is, more or less, that he will sell things (usually drops) that he finds. Obviously this would be done through a trade window but I want to know if people would see this as something worth pursuing since one could, essentially, get these on their own too. I don't want to spend all my time stockpiling green tradeable drops from Dungeons if this isn't an avenue that will lead to a positive response, yeah? RE: Playing a Peddler - Melkire - 08-14-2014 Talk to Verad. He's very familiar/experienced by now with something very similar. As for peddling actual in-game items, you'd have an easier time if most semi-rare drops were tradable. Alas, they aren't. THAT SAID. You could peddle them IC to help folks justify why they have what they have (e.g. "I've got this sweet looking axe now thanks to Tarot!") RE: Playing a Peddler - Berrod Armstrong - 08-14-2014 If you get stuff that people want, it'll sure as hell sell, IC or otherwise! It will also be a great way for people to weave the acquisition of certain items into their stories. RE: Playing a Peddler - Verad - 08-14-2014 Normally somebody has to say "dubious" three times in front of a piece of junk before I am summoned, but I will make an exception today. I find that peddling works well even when I'm not selling actual items (which I never am). In spite of the complete absence of actual wares, people do frequently send me gil in a trade window in small amounts for the pleasure of having been peddled at. If you were to supplement this with small items that won't cost you much to acquire, I think that most people would be quite happy with it. Be sure to check the market boards before you decide to sell things, though, so you don't accidentally sell fine wax to somebody for five gil. Being lynched by a mob of angry retainers isn't fun. RE: Playing a Peddler - Aya - 08-14-2014 Does Aya could as a peddler? I never deal with actual items when serving customers, and don't expect actual gil in exchange (although I do sometimes get it, and it is always much appreciated ^_^ ). Personally, I see her as too much of a fixture to be a peddler. While she does get hired to tend bar for other events and such, I have yet to see her wandering the streets of Ul'dah offering a selection of drinks to passers-by. You should correct that. At my events, we don't actually sell things (the game has 4 pumpkin items: Pumpkin Orange Dye, Pumpkin Cookie, Jack-o-lantern and Ogre pumpkin) which sucks... but playing a peddler with actual IC items is fun! On my own, I try to give away goods for free (most of the time) and sometimes I get gil from it. I think items such as potions, elixirs, ect. IC would be awesome to sell. I say go for it mate! I'd be all for meeting and congregating with another peddler! RE: Playing a Peddler - Rosekitten - 08-15-2014 Interesting thought to say the least, I had plans forever and a half ago to have a friend of mine serve as where my character got her crafting materials (mainly ore) from... alas that fell through. Though I like the idea of people using this or similar sources ic'ly. Though as already mentioned most rare or sought after items are bound.. The whole reason I placed my character's back story / present job as a smithy was to try and touch base with fellow ic crafters or merchants. >w< (something i do all too little of). RE: Playing a Peddler - Vysce the Lad - 08-15-2014 I think this sound like a pretty fun idea! I suppose the only question is the manner of your pricing, y'know? You might need to survey some prices on the exchange before selling, if you want to undercut the competition or give your customers a good deal. I suppose that bit is up to you~ ill be sure to look for ya in game! RE: Playing a Peddler - CrookedTarot - 08-15-2014 The hardest part, I'm afraid, is not being selfish with the gear! XD Maybe I'll buy the Seasonal items in bulk and then sell them just to stick it to those folks that sell them for 1 million gil on the market! XDDD Actually though--that's an idea. If nothing else, it would fall into the purvue of 'exotic goods'...hmm... I'm glad everyone likes the idea! I'll develop this further! Keep your eyes peeled for Tarot! |
