A question about armor. - LaPalatra - 12-17-2014

So I'm fairly new to Final Fantasy XIV as a game and am swiftly working towards Black Mage. However, I am not new to MMOs and RP in them. So as I level and work on my character concept, I've seen a handful of armor designs from quest gear. Now my question is this: is there any sort of site or some kind of resource that will let me browse armor/skins for the different armor types?

I know previous games I've played such as Tera, GW2, and WoW have such things, but I was curious if there was something along those lines for FFXIV. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Outside of game, you might try this site. It's a fairly comprehensive list of everything in the game (I do mean everything). There's a modelviewer that I've never had work, but there are also user screenshots that lots of people show off in.

You can also always try to view an item on the Market Boards in-game and make use of the Try On feature, as well.

Edit: Model viewer seems to be gone! Balls.

I've used xivmodels.com some to look at items, but it doesn't give you a base frame to see them on and it can be a bit clunky to maneuver the "model" around. It's also a bit outdated and a quick look-see at it now shows that they don't plan on updating it due to technical problems. I believe it's the same model viewer that Warren's site leads to (and that he's had problems with), as well. That's the only one I know about, unfortunately, but it might be a good starting place? Blush

The Market Boards idea works pretty well too. As does just examining someone who's wearing something that looks interesting to you and using the Try On option there to see how you look in it. The only downside to this method is that you can't alter the colors and such to match the rest of your getup... so you have to use your imagination a bit there.

The other main downside with using the Market Board to Try On items is that you can only try on tradable items; a lot of unique dungeon models and endgame gear can't be sold, so you can't try it in the market board either. However, I believe you can use Try On from another player's current equipment...

Believe it or not, the main website's item gallery can be helpful, as it lists everything and has much larger thumbnails. It also has the option for users to upload screenshots of them wearing that specific item, so you can see what they look like in depth. Hell, I've seen dyed augmented ironworks weapons thanks to this feature. Check it out.
