Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Sena C. - 01-18-2015 I'm on Phoenix and pretty isolated from the other rp'ers so i'm wondering....are there any RP LS in Phoenix? i look on here but can't really find any. I know roleplayers are on the server but i figure that most are hiden or shy about it...i don't know. I'm kinda new to the RP scene so i may need practice. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Maril - 01-18-2015 I do not know about anything on Phoenix sadly, Balmung and Gilgamesh are by far the most popular choices. For Balmung I can also say that it's not exclusively NA-people who RP there. It's a lot more international. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Arkghyom - 01-18-2015 I've found my fair share of RPers on Ragnarok, but it's not the same as Balmung/Sargantanas, for example. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Inessa Hara - 01-18-2015 Balmung is by far the most popular choice for an RP server. Even though its an NA server, there are lots of people from Europe on when the NA players are in bed or at school. With that said, the RP scene most everywhere else is pretty dead. Gilglamesh has an RP community but from what people I know have told me OOC, the community is dying or dead, so Balmung seems to be the primary and central server for everyone who RP's. IMO, I would recommend transferring over to Balmung for an RP community, but that's just me. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Du'lance Fiourtune - 01-19-2015 I am new to this game and RP in general so take this with a grain of salt.....but I've heard that Midgardsomer <spelling?) has/had a decent RP community. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Clover - 01-19-2015 Umm... I don't know how active the EU community is in Balmung. I for one don't tend to see EU RP events, so I guess the EU community has never been strong enough, otherwise we'd have chosen our own server from the beginning. Maybe everyone is resorting to what I've ended up doing myself, which is private RP with a group of friends. If you're new and European, I'll tell you the same I've told everyone else. Balmung is good for casual RP, as you'll find tons of it in the cities. Even outside them, you might find people RPing during your travels (which I'm always thankful for). If you're from EU, however, expect to be locked out from actual RP events/plots and endgame content. Nothing is impossible, but things might be (very) difficult due to the different timezones. As an European, I don't recommend any fellow EU player to come to Balmung, unless they simply want casual RP at the expense of everything else. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Maril - 01-19-2015 The problem with larger events and the EU timezone is that there isn't a whole lot of people that wants to create them/Has the time to. I've been looking for ideas for a while, but very little in terms of input and inspiration has come my way. The reason why I created the European directory is to eliminate the big obstacle of communication. Obviously, any European community is never going to be extremely big - WoW has that, but in every other game I've been to in the past 4 years, EU roleplayers have been a minority in a minority. It calls for people being more pro-active, but even so we would never match the activity level of the US community. Comparatively speaking EU'ers here, as far as I can tell, are doing a lot better than certain other communities out there - I'm never going to go out and say that everything is perfect, merely that there are a number of us here (Somewhere above 100, I reckon) and that's really that. The more proactive you are the more RP you see, seems to be a thing you can apply to RP in general, regardless of timezone. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Shizuka - 01-19-2015 I can't honestly say how big the EU playerbase is on Gilgamesh, but my FC does have three people spread between England and Ireland, and we housed a few from Australia for a bit too. Additionally, we have a player over in Hawaii. So there's an interesting sort of spread of time zones for us. I don't know if there's a ton of events centered around EU time zones, but you might be able to find the interest, even from some of the more odd-hour NA players. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Aris - 01-19-2015 In regards to EU on Balmung - I've seen a few more EU friendly events over the past few months than I did when I first arrived here. Generally 8pm onwards, but sadly most seem to start 11pm+ GMT. This also applies for PvE statics as well. Not RP related but still. I do get the impression the EU population is slowly growing though, as there isn't a EU roleplay server as big as Balmung. Hopefully we'll keep growing. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Chillsmack - 01-19-2015 I always thought Balmung was a good mix of US/EU RPers. The majority of RPers I've met on Balmung aren't in the US, but maybe that's just been my experience (I always curse a little since I'm MST lol) RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Kinono - 01-19-2015 I dunno about public events but I know there are quite a few active EU FCs. I've found it to be very hit and miss myself when it comes to random role-play and raids. One thing I've noticed is that there's a lot of EU players but they're rather scattered and don't really interact with each other much. It's also easy to receive a frigid reception when taking the initiative to get involved in something other than planned events, ironically even when dealing with those who love to paint themselves as 'open and welcoming' on this very site. RE: Are NA servers the only RP servers? - Inessa Hara - 01-21-2015 While most people on the site are open and welcoming, that doesn't mean we aren't weary of people we haven't RPed with before. We check for things like grammar, general lore knowledge and the chemistry of the characters that go with your own. Really, a lot of things factor into if we decide to RP with someone. While we are all open to new ideas and concepts and testing the waters with others, that's not a guarantee we can become permanent roleplay buddy's. In general, it's just a misconception of a misconception. We also have to take into consideration the amount of time we have available to RP as well as who we want to spend our time with. We all already have pre-existing relationships, plots and other such stuff that we are involved in, so its a time issue as well. Its just a lot of different factors that go into it. But that's terribly off-topic, back to the main point. I still state that there is an existing EU community here. While they are not as unified as the NA community, they do exist. Just gotta look hard and dig deep. Hey on the downside, if you don't find an EU group, you could always make you're own. Nothings stopping you. PS: Everyone has a different RP style and how they enjoy/view/want to RP. OOC chemistry is always a factor too. |
