Forget Batman, Iron Man is better. Just get rich and wear magiteknical armor you paid mountains of gill for and whoop someone's ass. You don't even need to be strong outside your armor or well trained.

I'm really just looking forward to the broadsword. Dogberry is magic stupid, so until I know more about where DRKs get their powers from, he won't be able to do them. He doesn't even have his chakras open anymore since his brush with Leviathan.

So I have no plans of being Batman, although my retainer brought me this odd little green ring. It's pretty cool, I've been having fun with it.

Or you could do that while still being Batman and make a god bleed.

Seriously, though, there's also the suit Bruce used in Batman Beyond too that was a sort of power suit. So you could totally be both. I would figure you'd want to have the "base" class be something that would fit that, though. Even if you're in powered armor, you'll kinda need to know how to swing a sword somewhat unless it's swinging it FOR you.

Anyway, I think I mentioned enough times how I'm using DRK with Judge. I'm just doing it for the sword, to be the Judge Blade for the Judgemaster. What is rather amusing is the fact that he's technically a bit of a black knight himself - an interioris hominid, as Black Hat mentioned - even if he isn't playing strictly as a Dark Knight. Not to mention he seeks to bring a sense of order and "proper"-ness, not unlike what it seems the DRKs would be doing in Ishgard.

One of my characters Actually was in the calamity. right before the time warp however he was dying and in the thralls of despair as Bahamut scorn was spread. So he has been reliving that moment over and over til the mother crystal called out ot him. That darkness in his heart had to go somewhere. So when he heard he can learn ot manipulate dark energy and channel it like so? He hoped on that bandwagon immideatly. "In a nutshell i want to tie the class to emotions enhanced through magic."

_ at least that's what im going with. This is prone to change if the actual magic works differently.

Really, it is EXTREMELY difficult* to base much of anything on a few lines of lore. One of my characters is going to go down the path of Dark Knight due to a unusual situation he has been put into, but it may be more using the concept than actually joining the 'order' of dark knights. It all depends really on the extent of the Dark Knights lore limitation.

However, if we consider them sort of being the Ishgardian version of the Rogues guild. There is a lot of flexibility as to what can motivate or drive them. I don't think that Jacke would abandon his code of ethics even if he got magicaly moved to Ul'dah. He would just have waaaaay to much work to keep up with really. Likely, the infamous 'the elementals don't want her to be healed' conjurers in Gridania would have a visit from the rogue.

Until we get more lore on them it really is impossible* to say if a character is going to follow the lore or not, unless they are preplanned to be a DRK that follows the blurb as the character concept.

*Well.. in my opinion.

A dragoon is specific to Ishgard, like how samurai are specific to Japan. Not to say there can't be leaping lancers in other parts of Hydaelyn, they just wouldn't be called dragoon.

Let's please not bring this into the thread. I've enjoyed the discussion going on so far and don't want to see an old, divided topic being dragged into it. People interpret the lore in different ways, the game actively allows outside races into the Dragoon class.

The horse is dead, let's please move on to the new controversial class.

^^ because in the game every PC is technically the Wol and can be whatever they want to be.

Just saying. I'm not picking sides lol

We've been down this road. Neither side of the argument can equivocally prove themselves correct. Schrodinger's Dragoons are perfectly canon until they aren't.

Thread does say "Dark Knights" and not "Dragoons," nor do dragoons seem in any way inherently connected or linked to Dark Knights.

Let's try to stay on-topic.

Personally... as I see it, the Dark Knights developed their techniques as a method to protect those that could not protect themselves. A sort of drive maybe, to do what was needed not what was desired by what controlled Ishgard.

A saying akin to 'In order to keep those who deserve to be in the light, I accept walking in the darkness, so that I can protect them'

Aside from that, that's all I have on the class.

My Au Ra will be a DRK, mainly for the greatsword, as for how the abilities come/came to him [waiting a bit more to see how they explain the use of Darkness on DRK as a whole] to develop what brought those along. However, I do fully intend on having my character possibly joining them [his traveling companion permitting] or more than likely just sticking to my own ideas.

It's all speculation at the moment.

My Elezen Ishgardian is actually going to become my dark knight. Is it a little like Batman? Sure, somewhat. But you could compare it to Zorro or any other number of popular references too. Really where the concept starts and how things go once RP and stories take off can be leagues apart.

In the end, he justifies it (and will be attempting to hide it because of HONOOOOOR and not bringing shame/death/etc upon his family) because of experiences with people in his life getting taken advantage of by those in power.

Let me know if you manage it. Then we can start asking some difficult questions about why we're playing in Eorzea at all.
