Hello, I'm new to RPing completely. A few buddies dragged me into it. So far its been interesting And I think My Character has a good story and personality. My question is, would I be looked down on for not having a steady class selected? I wanted to base my IC on being a free lancer who only looks for the simplest ways to get the job done including picking up the best weapon that suits the job. I will post my Bio underneath, I still need to add and fix a few things.

An Outlaw gentlemen Freelancer with great intentions but sometimes not the cleanest solutions. He earns his gil through dirty jobs and selling his rewards. From Limsa and raised in Ul'dah but never stays in one place for to long. He is a kind hearted person although his attitude or words will not show it. He may not seem like it, but he would give his life to protect a complete stranger.

Hi there! I don't think anyone would look down on a character for being a "jack of all trades" so to speak. A lot of characters mechanically have multiple classes/jobs and some choose to use more than one in their RP. For instance, I am RPing that my character has been training with the Marauder's Guild with an axe but now has an interest in swords and lances. She will be learning about both and possibly utilizing the different styles in different situations.

I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing you around!

**Disclaimer: I am also a newbie here so if I have given incorrect information I am sure someone else will clarify!

Hello there, welcome! The only advice I will give is that "jack of all trades, master of none" is an expression for a reason! Someone who dedicates their time and energy to learning to everything has none left over to learn to master something. Furthermore in RP, being a master at everything is overpowered and kinda Mary Sue. That being said, having your character dabble in a bit of everything is perfectly fine, just remember he can't be great at everything!

A well rounded adventure in my mind would be able to use several weapons so I dont think its odd at all. Coco uses Arcanism as her main and best skill set but seeks to learn Thaumaturge and Conjuration to expand her arsenal and understanding of Aether.  She might also tinker in some daggers but she wont get very good with them. Maybe have like a main weapon say Lance and then several support weapons like a bow for longer range targets. Then maybe if you wanted magic have some augmentation skills or something that would give you edge in your other weapons, or even maybe lay some traps or cast minor spells.  Imo you can weave it any way as long as you weave the story well and have a good and believable explanation as to why.

CHWONO!! Bouncy

Hellos and welcomies to the RPC!

I think it's perfectly plausible to know how to use more than one weapon, but like Faye stated, that means he can't be awesome at all of them. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but it could be possible for a character to be very good at one weapon and okay at the rest, yes? :O

And remember, we're all a friendly bunch here (aren't we, Warren?), and lots of the aforementioned friendly bunch are very learned in the lore of the game, so ask questions whenever you need to, or whenever you are in doubt. It helps. :3

And welcome to the world of RP. Big Grin

Hello and welcome!

I think you're fine if you wanna take up more than one class/job for your character(s). To share my own bit like everyone else did, my character will, in a way, dabble at everything... But he's only going to have a select number of jobs of his own desire... Which means he won't have a job change for the other classes.

Either way, I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. You got the forums here for your lores and other advices and suggestions, especially that regarding character development if that interests you~ And on top of that, you got people here in the forums and ingame that'll help integrate a new person like you into the world of RolePlaying!

"May the path in the light of the crystal" be filled with many memories and experiences!
