Given everything is dumped right from Esoterics vendor, has anyone found anything yet about what the AF2 armour is, exactly? NPCs in the Lvl60 job quests were wearing them, at least.

I remember speaking to Rowena in Mor Dhona and she'll tell you that Myth gear were 'replicas of vintage equipment'. Anyone found anything similar?

Nope haven't found anything myself. I was really disappointed when we found out we had to get our AF2 trough tomestones. Not so much I have to put effort into it, but rather we seem to miss out on lore why we are getting these outfits.

I don't know about other jobs, but Solkzagyl wears the Paladin AF2 and Sidurgu the Dark Knight AF2. I seriously doubt they bought it with tomestones. So I'd assume the Esoterics gear are perfect replicas of an unavailable AF (unlike the Mythology gear that was a slightly different replica of the original AF).

I actually can't recall a single NPC wearing the White Mage AF2.

Where the righteous right the wrongs

Nobody in DRG wore the new AF (sadly). Alberic still wore his old rags, Estinien didn't show (too busy with MSQ), and the new chick just had augmented drachen dyed some gaudy burgandy or something.

I don't know where the sets originate from. The guy wearing it in the BLM quests was a total ponce and so I'd hope he ordered his off of ebay or something, because he was pretty worthless.

I'm hoping that I get to rip the sweat soaked MNK AF off of Widargelt's primed body (again).

No lore on it yet, but I'm going to guess that they'll likely be replicas of more legendary regalia!

I can't even remember if the new PLD quests showed off the new armour or not. I found the quest chain to be fairly forgettable - but that's just me. The DRG one was a bit more interesting since it tied into the MSQ's quite nicely. Though I didn't see the new armour showcased there either.

PLD's is only shown in the very last one - at 60.

Ah. Weird - I did that quite recently. If it was the roegadyn who wore it, though, then that's probably why I forgot. I tend to roll my eyes whenever one comes on screen (bar a few exceptions here and there) since ridiculously over-sized races just annoy me.

I suppose I can blame WoW for that aversion...but that's getting a little off-topic. >_>

I do like the new armour sets though. I doubt I'll wear any of them IC though. If anything, I've got my sights on the Alexander PLD stuff since it's quite fitting for a Knight!

What I know for sure:

Show Content
Dark KnightWe see the armor in two places. We can see Sidurgu sitting in the Forgotten Knight with the armor as soon as we enter Ishgard, however its entirely possible to avoid Sidurgu altogether and see it for the first time on your darkside alter-ego. Of course it means the armor is iconic but no indication that it helps master your darkside or anything of the sort (akin to how the AF1 warrior armor was meant to amplify the inner beast).

Show Content
AstrologianThe astrologians of Sharlayan in the questline all wear the AF2, obviously it is typical gear.

What I speculate:

Show Content
Dragoonthere is no appearance or passing mention of the dragon lancer gear, however the pieces themselves follow german naming conventions (With the exception of the Mesail which is old french and plackart), the only other place that follows it were the name of the weapons in the Aery which is where you can find ancient Ishgardian armor pieces (the orthadox sets which the knights in the echo flashback wear and wield).

This has led me to believe that perhaps this was the gear back when the Elezen and Dragons lived in PEACE. Dragoons in previous FF games, especially FF4 were known as dragon riders and the armor would not only make sitting on a dragon more convenient but also works with the name "Dragonlancer" and the design being more reverent or dragon-like in design.

Haldrath wears the original AF1 Dragoon armor and so it shows the armor design is 1000 years old at least and most likely made specifically to kill the dragons.

This theory can only be overturned by the Kain pet, which states that Kain is a hero of old Ishgardian history who abandoned his post for honor, while a nod to FF4, the design is definitely reminiscent of the Dragonlancer gear which would date it as armor in circulation during Ishgard's early years. Or maybe, since Kain is known as a serial traitor in his games, the fact he would have the armor from the times when Dragons and Elezen were allies would make sense.

Show Content
WarriorWhile I have not done the quests, I do know you dig up Mythril Heart's axe, I've never seen the axe but if it matches the current esoterics one then it makes sense that the armor is just another warrior gear of a particular mountain tribe or specifically Mythril Heart's set.

Show Content
MonkI've seen screenshots of the MNK AF2 showing in the quests so I can only guess its just another temple sect uniform, please confirm.

Show Content
PaladinPaladin armor as we know it has existed as far back as at least the thorne dynasty as evidenced by the life size displays during Little Ladies Day. So where the armor stems from is a mystery to me.

Well that's what I got, please confirm/add your own so I can append.
