Hey Guys!

I'm Naih'ir, I am trying to run a few events that reoccur on the server to provide a fun rp envrionment for the community.

Events that are not the same as others ongoing. What I want to know is, what sor tof events have people always wanted to try, attend and go to?

We have a lot o' BARS and Fight rp clubs, but nothing really different.

What do you enjoy? and what times and das are you most free to attend an event? :moogle:

I used to run a weekly storytelling event on Tera Online. It was fairly successful; a lot of those that came regularly were my friends, but there were a few times that we pulled in 40 players.

Javou would be perfect for attending balls, parties, and Speed dating is right up his alley. He has to get his wimmens some how, am I right?

Crystalline is actually starting a bi-weekly sermon that we are slowly introducing to the public (we're hoping it seems like the invites spread by word of mouth). So hopefully soon you'll start seeing those show up on the events calendar here as well. Smile

Here are some of my ideas, partially based off of some events from other RP communities I liked:

In TOR:
There was a couples mixer for a rave dance. Everyone who signed up for the event was tossed into a blind date system and when you attended you picked up your date to spend the dance with. I think there may have been a music channel or vent you could access to listen to the music being played. Could do something more fantasy-like with more folksy type music.

That was a lot of fun.

In WoW and GW2:
There were a lot of walking/traveling events. Things like pilgrimages and protecting caravans. I actually find these to be a lot of fun. Plus whenever you reach the destination people can just hang out and RP.

Events surrounding adventuring plots is always fun. You're often given tasks as an adventurer to help the citizens out in game. Why not make up your own quests like saving a village, pushing back the enemy, or doing simple errands (room for social RP without being forced into a tavern). Don't have to use a sophisticated /roll system, and imagination is the name of the game.

Love this idea!

Agreed! There don't seem to be enough events like this.

All of the above!

Although I have heard it said by some RPers recently that there's a bit much in the 'casual meet n' greet' category as far as events on the server are concerned. Which is understandable, as purely social events aren't suitable for all characters.

Trouble is, the casual meet up is so common because it's the simplest to run. Try to implement more novelty and you inevitably end up needing more structure and organisation.

On that note, I'm always happy to help out with events if an extra pair of hands is needed!

PS - For those interested, The Traveling Templar are organising a speed dating variant of our speed meet event for Valentione's in February. Details will be up on the forums here soon.

I tend to favor events with a purpose beyond socializing, so your sermon idea is very appealing to me. It has lore relevance, learning potential, and enhances immersion, too. You also have the option of opening the floor up to other attendees to share their unique take on their faith in the Twelve. That can be a bit risky -- I'd recommend a time limit, and/or have people sign up in advance and have their story prepared.

In general, lore-relevant events seem to have the benefit of (a) helping to bring shy role players like myself out of their shell by giving us a task to focus on, and (b) sparking deeper roleplay by forcing characters to react to uncommon events. It takes a little more effort on the part of the organizer, but I've always seen these events get great receptions, and they're usually well-remembered.

Here are a few other event ideas I have either run or attended which seemed to work out very well:

- refugee assistance programs

- political or social rallies

- "Occupy [city]" events where a big group spreads out around a single city (or district within a city) and roleplays out daily life or whatever they feel like doing

- historical lecture series

- training workshops and classes

- pilgrimages

- holiday celebrations and performances

The most important thing is to invite audience participation. For a show, this might be as simple as having a fashion contest section where characters are invited to participate by being a contestant, or by voting for the winner. For a sermon, you might keep the sermon itself short in order to leave time at the end for characters to mingle and discuss their opinions on what they heard.

I have done a few large-scale adventuring/quest type events, and I have mixed feelings on them. The main challenge is balancing the adventuring momentum with the slower speed of large group roleplay. One solution for this is splitting people into smaller groups of 4-5 people and assigning each group a different task. Then everyone can reconvene at the end and share the spoils together.

Honestly, facilitating smaller group roleplay in larger events is probably a good idea no matter what you're doing. The main complaint I've seen about public events is that there's too much text scroll to keep up with. The trick is finding ways to group people up with characters they've never met before -- otherwise they'll just stick with their clique.

Anyway, that was a long-winded reply to a short question. I hope something in there helps, and good luck with your sermons! I'll be keeping an eye out for your future events. Smile

The great way is only difficult for those who pick and choose.
