This post as been completely edited from it's original message. Just figured I should put that out there so the replies don't look out of place.

There is a little bit of room in Rinette's past for people to jump in and I'm actively looking to fill in some of the parts. I haven't given any names, appearances, or backgrounds to the characters so everything is completely open.

The other family of her clan
The mate she was matched with
The academic who taught her to read/write (early to mid-thirties)

I also have an idea for general connection making since you can never have too many. Rinette is willing to act as a guide for anyone through the Shroud. Any character what so ever! An Ul'dah merchant who was ditched by a sellsword at the border of Thanalan and South Shroud who needs to get to Gridania to pick up an important shipment. A shady character slipping out of Coerthas and into the North Shroud to avoid capture. A Limsa native researching the Shroud's flora and wants to see it in person. There's a ton of possibilities with this which is why I love this scenario.

Alternatively, there is room in her backstory for an academic who taught her to read and write in her teens. The only issue with that is they would have to be in their early to mid thirties (Rinette's timeline is adjustable by a few years).

Now if neither of those ideas tickle your fancy I have left the other family of her MoonKeeper clan unnamed on the off chance someone wanted to step up and take the spot. That could be a whole plot by itself, finding each other, searching for more survivors from the clan, ect. If that doesn't work out I'll just beg Naih'ir to adopt me into their extremely well thought out and established clan.

That is good to know. I will probably end up joining your clan in the future when I stop adjusting her timeline/backstory/personality. She's still a work in progress for me and I want to have a history and personality I'm comfortable with before she gets into something where her attitude changing would be weird.

Its funny. My character's clan is just for back-story mostly.
However, in the making of my fictitious clan, my original two families in the clan were the Jakkya and the Molkoh. I thought that Molkoh was too commonly used in the game by NPCs, so I changed it to Kaatah. BUT Kaatah is NOT a name from the game. I remembered the Kaatya name (which is in the lore), but I remembered it spelled wrong Tongue

I didn't verify that it was accurate, so i stayed with it. I ended going from a surname for my clan's second family that was too common to a surname that would not ever be used by anyone unless they saw it from me. I sometimes feel like I violated the lore Sad

However, it is now too established in my RP to change.

Had I left well-enough alone, I could have linked family back-story with you easily. Ah well. If I were you, I'd definitely hit up the Naih guy for some clanage.

However, if you ever find me in-game, don't hesitate to hit me up for some RP. My character is a nomadic huntress of the Shroud as well. Smile

There's no need to worry. This dev post indicates that the surnames you see in game are just some of the most prominent ones; they're not the only ones available. You can use one of those or create your own as you wish and still be compliant with lore. Smile

Rinette's clan is just backstory as well but I thought if I left it open it could be an interesting plot if someone wanted to fill in the spot. It's really not a major story that I was planning on doing with her. It's a shame we couldn't combine our families but it happens and we can still roleplay together. :3

I feel like I royally messed up with Rinette's name as well, I was randomizing a lot of names in the character creator and didn't like any of the first names so I threw in Rinette from an old WOW character. I immediately regretted it when I started to work on her backstory and was looking through what little lore I could find about miqo'te and someone linked to the naming conventions.

The name Rinette seemed fine to me until you just now mentioned that LOL. The good thing about being a Keeper female is that you don't need to throw in any apostrophes or prefixes. I guess if you were going to go with Rinette you couldn't have chosen a better Miqo'te gender and race. Smile

Addition: Since you've updated the post, I would like to add that the names Rin, Rihn, Rinn and Rinh are all female Keeper names. Also, Keeper females have names that are one, or two syllables. Rinette is two syllables! Your name actually fits with naming conventions just fine.

That makes me feel a bit better about it. If anyone made a fuss over it I was going to say she chose this name after losing her clan and get a lore friendly name to be her given name. Funnily enough I've seen people running around with the name "Reinette", I think they were all hyur now that I think about it.
