For anyone who missed the stream Square is doing, FFXI will be cancelled on PS2 and Xbox in one year. PC service will continue.

Additionally, Square is making a mobile game based on the story of FFXI. Their way of immortalizing it as part of the series, I suppose. Nexon will be doing development of the game. Make of that what you will.

Wow. End of an era! I played the game fully on the PC (I could never figure out how to work it on PS2) but even I can see that this marks the end of one of the more defining periods in MMO history. Sure, PC will still run but that will still cut down a large population of Vanadiel!

If they could do that for FF14 1.0, it would be great as well.

I read the news earlier, saying that there will be 3 more huge update (including some FATE update) but nothing more, even though I never played FF11, it kinda made me sad.
