Man, I really wish I learned about XIV's RP scene sooner. I didn't even know it existed, but some errant curiosity led to me stumbling upon this very forum. You can call me Zhen'li. That's my PC's name, so I decided to roll with it. I gotta say, I'm really impressed with what I'm seeing here. Ever since I started playing about a month ago, I've been really into the story and setting. It's probably the richest I've seen in any MMO. The fact that such a large RP community exists excites me, because it finally gives me the chance to really get lost in the world, if you know what I mean.
However, like I said before, I regret not finding out earlier on. I started out in Ultros, on Primal, and treated it just like any other MMO. Got my main up to 50 and joined a nice, tight-knit FC, which is fine, of course. Don't get me wrong, I love the guys I'm hanging with, but because of my newly forged connections and obligations, I can't exactly transfer my main over to Balmung. Pretty sure my FC ain't the RPing type, either, so this means I'll have to make a new alt for Balmung.
I don't really know how big of an issue that'll be for me. I mean, obviously, new players join the RP community all the time, so it can't be that bad. I guess my biggest worry is that I just don't know where to begin. With a lot of features and content locked off from the start until I get up to the points where I actually unlock them, I don't know how able I'll be to actually RP properly. 'Course, that'll only apply once I actually figure my character out and shell out the money for a transfer to Balmung, which I can't afford at the moment, so unfortunately, the RPing will have to wait for now. I just wanted to introduce myself before I jumped into the fray. You know, find my footing and what not.
This is my first actual MMO RP, some tips on getting into it with a fresh character would be greatly appreciated! I'm not a total stranger to RPing, though; been on plenty of RP forums, and I've played my fair share of tabletop games. MMOs are a different story: XIV is the second MMO I've played and stuck with for a significant amount of time. The first was EVE Online, and after about 100 hours, I couldn't tolerate it anymore. Too dry for my taste. Other MMOs didn't really appeal to me, either. XIV, however, strikes that sweet spot for me. I think I'm gonna stick with it for a long time.
Sorry, I know my intro is kinda long-winded. I just, well, wanted to get some of my concerns out there, reach out for tips, you know. Taken as just a game, FFXIV is already quite great, but the lore, the characters, the course of the story, they all elevate it to a whole 'nother level above just about every other MMO I know of. I've been itching to start writing again, and what better way to do that than with people who are just as eager to work with the material this game provides as I am? I may not be able to join the fun right away, but rest assured, I will get to Balmung eventually. All I need are some tips on getting started, and I'll be good to go!
