The Black Garden Company is a traveling airship company based out of an airship themed house. We are primarily explorers and treasure hunters that don't have a problem doing the odd job on the side.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the main theme and story of the Black Garden?
The Black Garden is a reformed information brokering organization. The company having experienced some turmoil in recent times has begun working in treasure hunting and exploration. Utilizing their background in information gathering, the company has begun to steal, salvage, and engineer new devices to give them a technological edge.
Does the Black Garden have a running storyline?
We have a long running storyline that has spanned several months. Our main event is on Sunday nights at 6:30 Eastern. Though we have a long and established history, our story is written in such a way that it allows ease of access to new and returning members so that they may be able to quickly participate. Throughout the week we also run smaller one off events that are less episodic.
Can you give a brief history of the events that have happened during the Garden's campaign?
The Black Garden was originally an information brokering tea house. The bulk of the content took place in the Eorzean branch tea house. A rival branch known as the Hirata was making power plays to eliminate the organization. From Kugane they had bribed officials in Ul'dah to place false charges on one of the members. The group rescued her, and doing so learned that they had an intricate slave ring established. Over the course of several weeks the group worked to dismantle the ring fully.
Finally rid of the Hirata on Eorzean shores the group set out on an expedition to return to the homeland of the Garden. Their ship was attacked by Hirata skiffs as it neared Kugane. The party managed to fight them off but was bruised and battered for it. Knowing they were out gunned, the members of the Garden were forced to use cunning and guile to infiltrate Kugane and work from the inside to route the Hirata out. In the last eve of the conflict the group launched a surprise attack on the Hirata stronghold dressed as Garlean officers. When the dust had settled the Hirata were forced underground.
The conflict had taken a toll on the members though. Once innocent people were now turning into hardened criminals. Violence was beginning to become the norm. Something had to change. Victory had to mean more then becoming the next Hirata themselves. The group worked to begin to extract themselves from themselves. They took the odds jobs from the Resistance to pay the bills and looked for other means to get ahead. From time to time their past would crop up to haunt them but the party pushed forward. Finally there came a mission that would change their fate. Utilizing information gathered from a crime boss and with resources and backing by the Resistance the party stormed a Garlean resupply airship. Having liberated it they were now free to pursue any means they wanted. Choosing to apply the skills they had learned in their previous line of work they began treasure hunting with the occasional odd jobs on the side.
Where does the Garden stand in regards to its morals?
The Garden tends to take a neutral stance in regards to morality. We view ourselves as morally gray with some exceptions. The Garden believes that slavery is taboo and are actively opposed to the practice. In practice the Garden is more chaotic good. We've shown ourselves to champion the underdogs and work toward furthering everyone rather then ourselves. This does not mean that we are opposed to killing or violence. We only choose to utilize it as an appropriate response.
How does the Garden define it's moral stance?
Besides the stances previously mentioned, morality for the FC is defined each week by the actions of the member base. Our events at times have a branching choice as to what actions to take. Each choice has a consequence and a reward. It's from these choices that the story is progressed in a meaningful way based on player input.
Example: The party is told steal a box from the Garleans. Upon opening the box it is revealed that it is medical supplies for the civilian populace. The party then has the choice of leaving the supplies or taking them and completing the mission.
How does the Garden feel about accepting new members?
One of the biggest areas of emphasis in the Garden is the acceptance and inclusion of new members. We have worked very hard to foster an environment that is very accepting of new comers and makes them feel welcome and that they belong. If you are accepted into the Garden you are immediately one of the members and instantly a part of our community. We encourage people to join as many events as they like. They're always welcome to ghost as well if they want to see how they are run or what they are like. Non members are welcome to ghost and even participate if they communicate with an officer prior to the event.
What is the process for joining the Garden?
The usual process is to fill out an application under our recruitment section. From there it will be processed. If the application is accepted an officer will make contact with you either over discord or in-game to arrange an IC meeting. If everything goes well at the meeting you will be invited to join and instantly be a full member.
I am new to RP/new to Final Fantasy RP, is that okay?
We are very accepting of new roleplayers. Many of us come from other games and understand what it is like to try to join a new community. It has been our mission to make sure that everyone feels welcome and that they belong. We try to make ourselves a resource to other players. If people have questions or concerns we're more then happy to address them. If you are having a hard time coming up with a story of background we are more then happy to help with that as well.
Are there any types of RP that are forbidden?
Public displays of ERP or erotic roleplay are forbidden. This does not mean that ERP is banned. We simply do not want it displayed publicly. Lalafell ERP is the only form of ERP that is actively banned.
Where does the Garden operate out of?
We are in the unique position of having our own personal airship. The Rocinante is our home base. It serves as base, tavern, and warehouse. Our FC house is set up entirely to fit this airship theme. The idea with having a mobile base is that we are able to get to multiple areas very easily and keep in character.
Where does the Garden primarily RP at?
The majority of our events take place all over the world. We try to have as much world RP as we can. In addition to that we have built set pieces out or homes and apartments for individual events for people to RP in. The leadership enjoys finding new and creative ways to the use the world and older spaces and turn them into a new experience for the players. We still have social gatherings at our home, but our primary focus is to be out in the world.
What kind of forums does the Garden use?
The Garden does not use a traditional forum. Instead we prefer to communicate on our Discord server and utilize that as our primary means of communication. This site is mostly for outreach and recruitment purposes. Once you have been accepted as a full member you will be given full access to our server. For those interested in getting in contact with the membership they should check the contact tab.
I am a raider or have some other form of PVPÂ or PVEÂ obligations, will that be a problem?
We have a few members that involved in static groups. We have no issue with them attending those events so long as they understand that our event times will not change. It is impossible to make a schedule that fits everyone's schedule. We do encourage them to pursue their interests and welcome to the events that they are able to or want to attend.
