Hello everyone! The name's Alexis and I figured I'd add to the newbie welcome posts!
I'm always terrible at these, so apologies in advance. Thankfully you guys have that wonderful template stickied up there! Now then, a little about me...
MMO Background!
Well, I've been playing MMOs for about eight years now, ever since I first stepped foot into the world of Vana'diel of FFXI.
The genre really stuck to me as soon as I began playing XI. The idea of playing with people all over the world was just amazing in my mind and it's never left since! I stuck around with XI until around 2011, so it took six years of my life from me!
(I say took, but I offered them up willingly.
)
Then I moved on to World of Warcraft and I've stuck around there since, which is where my love for RP on an MMO began! (More on that later!)
In both FFXI and WoW I normally stuck to healer types and casters, so this time around I'll be looking for something different. I have my eyes set on Gladiator and Marauder right now, so if any of you are looking for a tank feel free to give me a poke! (But oh my gosh how awesome does Arcanist look right? I see myself falling to temptation there in the future...)
RP Background!
I started roleplaying around ten years ago, when my brother roped me into playing a pen and paper game with some of his friends. I had no idea that what we were doing was even called 'roleplay' at the time, but it's something I found myself very interested in.
Fast forward a few weeks and I finally found myself on several forum RP communities and chatroom RP communities taking part in big storylines and all the like. Now, when I think back a lot of that stuff was very cliche, but I like to tell myself that it was part of the learning experience! *cough*
I never actually got to try roleplay in an MMO situation until I started on World of Warcraft. When I saw a server labelled "RP" I was both confused and amazed. I had no idea RP even existed on FFXI, so it was a bit of a shock for me. Either way I rolled on said server and began my MMO RPing journey, and ever since I've been addicted. I can't even fathom the idea of joining an MMO and not playing on a RP server now!Â
So, to cut that down, ten years of actual experience, two years of MMO experience. All it really boils down to is that I love roleplaying!
Character Ideas/Info!
Oh, boy. Well, all I know of so far is that she's a Hyur Midlander female named Alexis Price, and you can see her face in my avatar right over there!
Frankly, I'm a little stumped at what I want her to be. I know it sounds awfully generic, but I've always been a fan of RPing outdoors and in dungeons and actually doing 'adventure' stuff, so... I was thinking along the lines of adventurer. There's a couple of main ideas I have in my mind at the moment, which are:
I was actually directed here by some lovely people while I was playing the Open Beta. My entire reason for rolling on Balmung was a RL friend of mine (who doesn't RP) had a legacy character here, so I popped on to test it out, too. It must be fate!
What kind of roleplayer are you aiming to be? Light? Medium? Heavy?
I'd say around Medium. RP is such a big part of a MMO for me now, but I still wish to play the game and witness the story/raids/PvP and all sorts. It'll be one of my top focuses, but so will the actual game itself. Ideally I'd like to find a guild (Free Company?) that roleplays and has an IC story and all that, but also tackles end game content as friends. Oh! And OOC Guild chat is something I need, too. I like to become friends with the people I'm playing with! IC Linkshells are right up my street though. They're the chat channel-like things, right?
Real Life Stuff!
And the last bit! I'm 22 and from the United Kingdom, but currently live in Shanghai, China. (Awkward time zone. Yay me!)
I'm out here with a company acting as PR for their English clients. I also tutor Chinese children in English during my free time for extra money! I love living out here and can't see it changing for a long time, but the time zone really does depress me. So presumably with said time zone I won't find much RP, so if you ever see Alexis Price about please don't be shy! I'd love to RP with everyone!
TL;DR?
So after reading this over, I now realise it's pretty long. Oops!

I was thinking along the lines of adventurer. There's a couple of main ideas I have in my mind at the moment, which are:
- The daughter of a wealthy Ul'dah family. Alexis herself a strong fan of the Sultana's efforts with the poor of the city, but her family prefers the corrupt approach that most of the city seems to follow. I'm thinking her family may have set up an arranged marriage for financial reasons, so she took off and fled the city - starting her adventurer life. I like the idea of her trying to adjust from spoiled wealthy child to a rough 'n' tough adventurer.
- A blacksmith's daughter who lives out somewhere in La Noscea with her father. She is often tasked with delivering his goods to the city and witnesses all the different adventurers/antics of 'city life'. This route would make her more of a 'dreamer', I guess. Her dream would be to leave her life behind and become an adventurer. I just don't know how easy that sort of story is to pull off in an MMO, since I'd like to develop it all in game.
I was actually directed here by some lovely people while I was playing the Open Beta. My entire reason for rolling on Balmung was a RL friend of mine (who doesn't RP) had a legacy character here, so I popped on to test it out, too. It must be fate!
